JAKARTA, Indonesia, March 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Southeast Asia's next generation of recording artist, Mondo Gascaro, is set to explore opportunities for his debut album RAJAKELANA.
He made his early debut with the label Ivy League Music.
Ivy League Music has partnered with Production Dessinee (in Japan) and is seeking live gigs and distribution in foreign countries. He intends to make Indonesian popular music accessible to the global crowd.
Before his solo career took off, Mondo co-founded SORE whose first album Centralismo was voted by TIME magazine as "One of Five Asian Albums Worth Buying" (2005), and co-composed music for Indonesian award winning films, including Love for Share (2006) and The Forbidden Door (2009).
The recent release of RAJAKELANA, an old Indonesian idiom for "the wind", has garnered critical acclaim from top publications: ranked #2 in Rolling Stone Indonesia's "20 Best Albums of 2016" and voted as the "Best Album of 2016" by Tempo, the country's largest news magazine.
In addition, Rajakelana was officially released in Japan on 22 Feb., 2017 by the Japanese record label Production Dessinee with the courtesy of Ivy League Music, a Jakarta-based music label which Mondo co-founded with his wife. The digital CD and 7-inch vinyl disc have been available in Japan via stores like Tower Records and Disk Dessinee.
The album features 10 tracks; 4 songs in Indonesian, 4 in English, and 2 instrumental pieces. Listening to Rajakelana is like traveling into the musical world of Mondo Gascaro. His leaning on the Erotic and Sensuality is heard on the track "Naked". In "A Deacon's Summer" you can hear the sound of Californian AOR by way of Japanese City-Pop. Another highlight in the album is the song Butiran Angin, where Mondo uses Sanshin, a traditional Okinawan stringed-instrument along with gambang kulintang (a traditional Indonesian bamboo marimba) as if to emphasize his cross-cultural legacy.
Rajakelana with its wide-ranging styles and expression (tropical rhythms of Brazil; Indonesiana; Brian Wilsonesque harmony; cinematic music) is Mondo Gascaro's personal celebration of life. It is a story of exploration and freedom, a musical pilgrimage that carries the message of life from afar.
