The Haier-led 'Home Network Standard Industrialization Alliance' Granted International Standard by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) for Its U-Home Technology

QINGDAO, China, May 14 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Haier, the world's largest white goods brand, leads the "Home Network Standard Industrialization Alliance" that was recently granted an international standard for its innovative U-Home technology for networked home appliances by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Project IEC 62514, "Multimedia Gateway In Home Networks - Guidelines", submitted by the Alliance, successfully passed the FDIS (Final Draft International Standard) vote at the end of April 2010.

The standard was accepted with 100% approval by the IEC's TC100 (Technical Committee 100) national members whose scope is the standardization of audio, video and multimedia systems and equipment. The newly approved standard describes the general guidelines for typical applications of the home multimedia gateway in home networks supporting IP networking. The document specifies recommended functions and services to be supported by the home multimedia gateway. It also specifies a central management model in home network supporting various interfaces in LAN side and WAN side.

"Haier is proud to be part of the first Chinese IEC international standard in the home networking field. It is a testament to our focus on innovation and to making the lives of our customers around the world easier and better by providing revolutionary solutions for everyday life," said Ms. Zhang Tieyan, Director of Haier Global Branding Operation and Haier spokesperson. "U-Home technology has now become the standard for home network systems ensuring the seamless use and trade of intelligent home appliances throughout the world."

U-Home, which stands for "Ubiquitous Home," accompanies users as they go through their daily lives both in and outside the home. It keeps them connected to the world when at home and connected to their home when outside. By using the internet, mobile communication and fixed telephone connections, U-Home equipped home appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and washing machines allow users to communicate and use them anytime and anywhere remotely. U-Home assists users in many ways, from automatically turning off lights and turning on security systems when leaving home, to monitoring the refrigerator content by cell phone, making grocery lists a thing of the past. When it is time for bed, television and lights are automatically shut off and curtains are drawn automatically. U-Home makes life easier and more convenient than ever before.
