HONG KONG and TAIPEI, Aug. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP announced today that E. Patrick ("Pat") Ellisen has joined the firm as a partner in its intellectual property practice, resident in the firm's Silicon Valley office. Pat, who was formerly a partner with Greenberg Traurig, is the second addition to Orrick's Taiwan-focused IP practice this month. Ya-Chiao Chang, the former co-founding partner of Kirkland & Ellis' Beijing office, joined Orrick on August 3.

"Pat has a longstanding reputation among Taiwanese companies for his IP litigation successes," said Mark Wine, co-chair of Orrick's patent practice. "We are delighted to add both Pat and Ya-Chiao to our team as we increase our focus on representing Taiwanese companies in their most important US and global IP matters."

Denise Mingrone, leader of Orrick's intellectual property business unit added, "Mark and I have known Pat and practiced with him earlier in our careers. We are excited to welcome another top practitioner to our Silicon Valley team and to continue growing our Taiwan practice."

Pat focuses his Taiwan and domestic company practice on intellectual property protection, counseling and enforcement in patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret matters. He has broad experience handling various types of IP disputes, including patent infringement actions in the US District Courts and before the US International Trade Commission.

Named to the National Law Journal's "IP Hot List" in 2014 and by Law360 as "IP Practice Group of the Year," Orrick represents leading global companies in their most important IP disputes. In Asia, Orrick has resolved more than 100 cross-border IP disputes in matters related to patents, trade secret, trademarks and copyright for numerous multinational corporations operating in the continent.

"I'm extremely excited to join one of the premier IP teams in the US and Asia. This is a team with the depth and breadth to handle the most complex cases and a win list that just keeps growing," Pat noted. "I'm especially looking forward to joining former colleagues such as Denise Mingrone and Mark Wine and new colleagues such as Ya-Chiao and Neel Chatterjee."

Named an IP Star by Managing IP (2013-2014), Pat is a frequent lecturer and active member of the American Bar Association and the Santa Clara County Bar Association. He earned his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and his B.A., with honors, from the University of California at Berkeley.
