- Won another mega project following the Brazilian CSP mega project

- Enhancing its competitiveness in the Brazilian steel plant business based on its proven technology

SEOUL, South Korea, Nov. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- POSCO E&C (Vice Chairman & CEO, Chung Dong-Hwa) announced that it won a steel plant project worth 600 million dollars (approximately 630 billion won) from Brazilian CSS on the 25th of November.

The project is to build a Rolling Mill plant with an annual output of 0.8 million tons of steel sheets (hot-rolled 0.2 million tons and cold-rolled 0.6 million tons) on EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) basis. The main facilities to be supplied include, hot rolling machines, cold rolling machines, auxiliary equipment and installation and construction works.

By winning the project for a rolling mill, which is for the downstream process (hot and cold rolling), following up its current Brazilian CSP project for the upstream process (iron making, steel making and continuous casting) POSCO E&C has achieved a record of supplying and constructing an integrated steel works. The two projects enable POSCO E&C to take part in an EPC project for the entire processes in Brazil, a country which is leading the economic development across Latin America.

In addition, this CSS project will be carried out using purely POSCO E&C's own technology, leveraging its experience and technology from the nearly completed construction of the fourth hot rolling plant of the Gwangyang steel works, which has an annual production capacity of 3.5 million tons. This is expected to provide POSCO E&C with a good opportunity to obtain recognition for its advanced technology at home and abroad.

Alberto Cunha, President of Brazilian CSS said, "I am convinced that this project will be successfully implemented as we are working with the engineering & construction arm of the POSCOGROUP, the global steel maker."

Chung Dong-Hwa, Vice Chairman & CEO of POSCO E&C said, "We will implement this project successfully and try our utmost efforts to get a chance to continue our service for the following phase 2 and 3 projects of CSS as well."

Meanwhile, POSCO E&C first made its successful entry into the Latin American market by participating in the power generation projects in Chile and Peru from 2007, and is now about to enter the American steel plant market in earnest by winning both upstream and downstream projects.
