HONG KONG, June 23 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Wan (Corporate Services) Ltd., the sole agent of Perrier in Hong Kong is making the following further statement to clarify the NITRITE level of Perrier.

Perrier Clarifies the NITRITE Level in Consumer Council Findings

We strongly believe the Consumer Council Findings is not correct.

We respectfully submit that the figure 0.4 mg/L of Nitrite in Perrier is not correct.

Nitrite content in Perrier is regularly and closely monitored. Soon after the Consumer Council report of their test result, samples of Perrier have been sent to both local and overseas external independent and certified laboratories for testing. All the testing results, be it historical or recent, are consistent with each other.

The above has been advised to Consumer Council. Consumer Council should in our honest opinion re-test the Perrier product.

The people of Hong Kong should not be misled.

The following additional technical information is provided for reference:

1) The production batch of April 4 2008 is the batch that Consumer Council had used. Our French suppliers have taken the "factory retained sample" of this particular batch to an independent and certified laboratory for checking the level of Nitrite. The result is <0.05 mg/L.

2) The production batches BEFORE and AFTER the said date of April 4 2008 have also been checked for their NITRITE level by two independent and certified laboratories. The results are also <0.05 mg/L.

The 3 "BEFORE" batches are: 27 Aug 2007; 22 Nov 2007 and 21 Feb 2008;

The 3 "AFTER" batches are: 26 May 2008; 13 Aug 2008 and 18 Nov 2008.

3) The INTERNAL factory checks done on Nitrite showed <0.01 mg/L.

The 5 "BEFORE" batches are: Mar 03; 12; 21; 28 and Apr 02, 2008;

The 4 "AFTER" batches are: Apr 09; 15 24 and 28, 2008.

4) Three separate laboratory tests have also been done in the last few days in Hong Kong by independent and certified laboratories. The results are <0.05 mg/L (two times) and <0.01 mg/L.

The results of the lab tests <0.05 mg/L and <0.01 mg/L depend on the detection limit of each laboratory.

These figures would therefore mean that nitrite is NOT detected in Perrier.

We would be happy to provide copies of the test reports.

5) Consumer Council's lab test report also showed total dissolved solids (TDS) of 316 mg/L. Perrier has a very consistent TDS of 485 mg/L. There are technical experts who would say that the TDS value can be used to "identify" a particular brand of mineral water. Consumer Council's result is over 30% different, a gap large enough that the possibility of a "wrong" identification can not be ruled out.
