SMIC's Jose Sio Wins Fourth Time In A Row

MANILA, Philippines, June 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Alpha Southeast Asia revealed the results of their fourth annual poll to find Southeast Asia's top companies.  The awards are based on tallied votes among 477 investors, pension funds, hedge funds, equity and fixed income brokers and analysts with investment interests in the Southeast Asia region. Listed-companies in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines were ranked according to investors' perceptions of their performance in financial management, adherence to corporate governance, integrated reporting/ corporate social responsibility and investor relations' strategy.

In the Philippines, regular favourites by investors include diversified conglomerates SM Investments Corporation (SMIC) and Ayala Corporation, predominantly real estate focused player Megaworld, telecoms players Globe Telecom and Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) as well as consumer giant San Miguel Corporation and power generation company Aboitiz Power Corporation.

Strategy driven CFO Jose Sio, CFO, SM Investments Corp was voted as the Best CFO in the Philippines for the fourth consecutive year since the poll's inception.

Across the region, the award for the Strongest Commitment to Sustainable Energy in Southeast Asia went to leading integrated energy company Thai Oil for the third consecutive year. Best CFO in Southeast Asia went to Bank Mandiri's Group CFO, Pahala Mansury.

Investors noted Asia Amalgamated Holdings, Waterfront Philippines Inc. and Alphaland Corporation for "perceived" poor management practices and unpredictable investor relations' strategy.
