SHANGHAI, China, Jan. 31 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Shanda Interactive
Entertainment Limited (Nasdaq: SNDA), or Shanda, a leading interactive
entertainment media company in China, was recognized with the "The Best e-
Payment Enterprise in China Award" and "The Most Innovative e-Payment
Enterprise in China Award" at the China e-Finance and e-Payment Conference on
January 30, 2007. Mr. Tianqiao Chen, Chairman and CEO of Shanda, was also
recognized with the "Leader in Chinese e-Payment Market Award".
The conference was co-organized by Ministry of Information Industry MII ,
China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC), and China Electronic Commerce
Association (CECA). Shanda is the sole online game company to win the awards,
which are also granted to enterprises like Industrial & Commercial Bank of
China and China Construction Bank.
As a leading online game operator in China, Shanda has committed itself to
advancing China's e-Payment market. In 2003, Shanda became one of the first
companies to connect directly with main commercial banks in China when the
company launched version 1.0 of its e-Payment system. In early 2004, Shanda
introduced version 2.0 of its e-Payment system and made access to its e-
Payment platform available to third-party commercial users. In December 2006,
Shanda released version 3.0 of its e-Payment system, which made the system
easier to be connected to and improved the system's account management
features by streamlining self-help features for third-party commercial users.
"The e-Payment system is one of the most important distribution channels
of Shanda's core business. It is growing rapidly and we hope that it will
give us new opportunities and provide us with additional revenue streams in
the future," commented Tianqiao Chen. "We will continue to improve our e-
Payment system and develop it into a fully functional online payment platform
in an effort to better serve our core business and attract more third-party
commercial users."
Shanda's e-Payment system covers 98% of the credit cards, debit cards and
other types of payment cards currently accepted in China. As a key component
of Shanda's online game business, the e-Payment system was instrumental to the
increase in direct sales of the company's prepaid cards, which accounted for
22.7% of total sales of prepaid cards during the fourth quarter of 2006. The
system has been successful in attracting commercial users such as China
Mobile, SMG, New Oriental Online, Stockstar, Jiangmin and MyTV365, to join in,
and the company's efforts have been recognized by positive feedback from
certain third-party users.
