BEIJING, June 22, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Shell Global Solutions and CRI/CRITERION Marketing Asia Pacific Pte Ltd (CCMAP) are stepping up efforts to offer collaborative licensing technologies and CRI catalysts offerings to petrochemical companies in Greater China and Asia Pacific.

Shell Global Solutions will provide Ethylene Oxide/Ethylene Glycol (EO/EG) licensing technologies and tailored consultancy services together with CRI EO/EG catalyst innovations in operations and process technologies that range from High Selectivity (HS), High Performance (HP) to Hybrid (HY) catalysts.

The collaborative offerings aim to help petrochemical companies achieve cost savings, quicker payback and meet stringent emissions requirements.

Currently, petrochemical companies are facing challenges such as pressured margins, new capacity that is expected to come on-stream next year, safety and reliability concerns, climate change, variations in the energy environment and geopolitical issues.

CRI catalysts can help achieve cost savings. For instance, medium-sized companies can enjoy US$10million each year or US$30 million in three years.

Shell has licensed EO/EG technology 76 times since 1956, and has one of the leading catalysts market shares in Greater China and Asia Pacific.

"Shell licenses leading edge technologies that cut energy use per unit of production, reduce operational costs and optimise equipment performance. Our delivery model is based on quality, costs and schedules. As a major operator of EO/EG technology, we drive technology development to remain competitive and our new designs benefit from our own operating experience," said Ken Lai, Director of Licensing, Asia Pacific, Shell Global Solutions BV.

"Our strategies to stay ahead include our continuous investments in R & D and progressive technology that enable us to introduce efficient catalysts that offer petrochemical companies' tangible cost savings," said Ma King Way, Business Director, CCMAP.

CRI Catalyst also focuses on breakthrough High Selectivity Catalysts technology and Step-out High Performance Catalysts technology. On average 80-85% of CRI catalysts are produced in a 36 months period or a three-year inventive cycle versus the market average of 10 years.

"With one of the biggest technical teams in the catalysts markets in Greater China and Asia Pacific, we have a staff strength of 12, of which eight make up the technical team," concluded Ma King Way.

EO/EG process technologies are licensed to companies in Tianjin, Fushun, PetroChina in Liaoyang and Skyford.
