A Sustainable Mission Possible

HONG KONG, April 6, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Sino Group of Hotels has garnered two green awards in March 2011 in recognition of the hotels' best green practices in operations and innovative initiatives, including the Second Runner-up at Greeners Action's "Save the Food Cooking Competition" and Outstanding Best Practices - Hotel Category, U Green Awards 2010.  The second year in the row, four hotels of the Group in Hong Kong, The Royal Pacific Hotel & Towers, Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel, City Garden Hotel and Island Pacific Hotel participated in WWF's global campaign Earth Hour on 26 March 2011 to show their commitment to living a low-carbon lifestyle.

Sino Group of Hotels is the only winner in Outstanding Best Practices - Hotel Category, U Green Awards 2010

Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel was the Second-Runner up at "Save the Food Cooking Competition", organised by Greeners Action Hong Kong, a campaign encouraging optimisation of leftovers of cooking ingredients hence reducing food waste, held on 20 March 2011 at Town Gas Cooking Centre in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.  The winning entry, "Treasure" prepared by the hotel chef's team, mentored by Chief Executive Chef Felly Chung and led by Chef Lai Wing Hon, thoroughly optimised every part of the ingredients including broccoli, salmon skin and rice by turning them into a tasty, nutritious and visually-appealing dish.  The team was proud that the creative and healthy dish was applauded by the judging panel.

Four hotels of Sino Group of Hotels were being awarded as Outstanding Best Practices – Hotel Category, U Green Awards 2010 on 11 March 2011, organised by U Magazine, a subsidiary of Hong Kong Economic Times Holdings Limited.  The award aims to recognise the effort of corporations making outstanding participation in environmental protection and promoting a green living.  Judging Panel who audited final winner included WWF, Greeners Action and The Conservancy Association in Hong Kong.

Sino Group of Hotels is the only winner in Hotel Category of U Green Awards 2010.  The Group set out a vision in sustainable development in the last several years.  They have been pursuing progressive green initiatives such as implementing all-rounded environmental protection strategies, enforcement of green elements in all their operations, providing their customers with green choices, partnering with other green organisations for community programmes, establishing an organic farm and most importantly, dedicating themselves to encourage their staff and younger generation in pursuing a green lifestyle.

On 26 March 2011, Sino Group of Hotels participated in Earth Hour 2011.  Over 2.5 million Hong Kong people including the Group and over 1 billion others from around the world participated in WWF's Earth Hour in 2010, and switched off the lights for an hour, the simple and meaningful global action has shown the world their concern about sustainable development and the planet.  The Group will continue to commit themselves and encourage their staff, affiliates and guests to pursue a green living one way or the other.
