The Great Dane Earns Winner-Take-All First Prize of $1 Million

DUBLIN, Ireland, Dec.16, 2010 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Team Full Tilt's Gus Hansen finished off the year in style with victory at the FullTiltPoker.com Poker Million IX.

The Danish poker star won the winner-take-all first prize of $1 million in a live Sky Sports HD broadcast last Friday. Poker Million IX was played out over six qualifying shows, with an additional runner-up heat. The winner of each qualifier was joined by online player Gary Penikent, who earned his spot by winning a Freeroll tournament at Full Tilt Poker.

The star-studded final included Team Full Tilt members Howard Lederer and Patrick Antonius, plus Full Tilt Poker pros James Bord and Barny Boatman. The line-up for the final table was completed by Tony Bloom and another Full Tilt Poker online qualifier, Seth Webber, who earned his place through the runner-up heat.

Hansen dominated the final table, reaching heads-up play after Tony Bloom eliminated Bord - the WSOP Europe Main Event winner. The heads-up contest lasted just a few hands before Hansen raised with A-8 then called after Bloom shoved all-in with A-6. An eight on the flop sealed the victory for Gus.

The Great Dane is one of the most recognized players in poker having been a regular at the high-stakes tables since the nineties. He is the only player to have won four WPT titles and earlier this year ended his wait for his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet by winning the High Roller Heads-up event in London. Hansen's victory in the Poker Million IX took his live career tournament winnings beyond $9 million.
