The Academy is the leading national organization dedicated to the health of children from infancy through adolescence. Dr. Alden led the 62,000-member group for nearly 10 years, and earlier served in several senior leadership roles there. He has been recognized internationally for his medical expertise and his numerous contributions to the pediatrics field, including key advances in improving children's health through global advocacy and education programs. Among numerous accolades Dr. Alden has received throughout his career are two Gold Medals awarded to him by the AAP for his teaching exhibits on critical pediatric research subjects.

Smilables Inc. (www.smilables.com) has created a first-of-its-kind, fully-integrated system comprised of a smart wearable baby ankle bracelet coupled with smartphone-delivered modules structured for parental interactions with their infant. The Smilables system equips parents with customized day-to-day lessons and activities designed specifically for the baby brain, which at its peak develops at the rate of a million synapses every second. An adaptive feedback mechanism allows parents to monitor their baby's developmental progress on a weekly basis. The system also measures infants' key metrics including temperature and activity levels throughout the day.

With his membership on Smilables' Advisory Board, Dr. Alden joins a stellar panel of experts in baby brain development, engineering, and business from several of the world's leading universities, including Harvard, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and Stanford.

"It is an honor to have someone of Dr. Alden's international stature contributing to our mission of helping parents improve their child's brain development during the critical first two years of life," said Dr. A. K. Pradeep, Chief Executive Officer of Smilables. "Our goal is to help enable more productive and rewarding lives for as many of the 130 million babies born around the world each year as we can, and we welcome his participation in accomplishing that."
