Walmart China Announces Senior Hires

BEIJING, May 27, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Mr. Ed Chan, President and CEO of Walmart China announced today that, Mr. Mario-Jose Medina, current CFO of Walmart Chile will be appointed as the Senior Vice President and CFO of Walmart China. Mr. Ed Chan also announced that Mr. Del Sloneker, who previously served as Senior Vice President in several functions at Walmart Stores Incorporated, will be appointed as Chief Operations Officer of Walmart China Hypermarket responsible for store operations. Both executives will take up their new positions upon completion of visas and other procedures.

Mr. Ed Chan said, "Walmart attaches great importance to China where the retail industry is experiencing rapid growth. Our headquarters has provided excellent talent for our China management team. Mario-Jose Medina and Del Sloneker are great additions to an already strong Walmart China team. Both executives bring with them years of experience and a solid understanding of the retail market in China. Together with our existing management team, both executives will enhance our ‘Everyday Low Prices’ business model and focus on serving our customers and members with high quality products, so as to fulfill our core mission 'Saving people money, so they can live better'."

Mario-Jose Medina joined Walmart in 2007 as CFO of Walmart Puerto Rico and was subsequently appointed as CFO of Walmart Chile for his outstanding performance. He has made great contributions in the company’s development in Latin America market. Ed Chan added "With in-depth financial knowledge and rich industry experiences, I believe Mario-Jose will boost our future development in China."

Mr. Del Sloneker served as Senior Vice President in several functions at Walmart Stores Incorporated from 1986 to 2006. During his tenure, Sloneker received several awards, including the Sam M. Walton Entrepreneur of the Year Award, for improving profit and driving sales. Mr. Ed Chan said, "Not only is Del Sloneker a seasoned professional in global retail operations and management tools, but he is also well versed with the China market. I am confident his proven track record in all areas of store operations further enhances our growth and the shopping experience for our customers."
