Women Empowerment Project APEC WeConnect Launched by DHgate.com CEO

2016-11-16 23:00 1996

LIMA, Peru, Nov 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Wednesday, November 16 at the APEC Women's Luncheon at APEC Lima, DHgate.com founder and CEO Diane Wang launched the APEC WeConnect women's leadership project alongside Peruvian Vice President Mercedez Araoz. This project aims to help young women to leverage the digital economy to elevate their careers and learn entrepreneurial skills through learning, sharing and incentivizing. The platform will have an information center which will feature case studies of successful female entrepreneurs. The APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) will also work with local partners based in different economies to offer opportunities for young women to have face to face encounters with female role models (http://www.dhgate.com).

According to a study conducted by McKinsey and Lean-In, (https://womenintheworkplace.com) for every 100 women promoted past entry level positions, 130 men are promoted. Women remain underrepresented in the corporate pipeline. At every step, the representation of women declines, and this does not appear to be the result of company-level attrition.

Digitalization provides females with more career opportunities. It enables women in many industries to work remotely, lower the barriers to starting their own businesses, and allow them to easily connect with the world. As one of the most strategic partners of ABAC, DHgate.com will fully support and play a very important role in the facilitation of the APEC WeConnect project, and will share experiences and solutions from China to build and formulate the standards to empower more female entrepreneurs to enter the global value chain.

"In the past few years, the APEC Women's Leadership forum developed from a small group of only five members to 250 female members, including many business leaders, young entrepreneurs, and even leaders of nations. Digitalization provides women with many advantageous conditions; we can assist clients from our home, we no longer need to travel thousands of miles to make a business deal, and digital platforms offer entrepreneurs endless opportunities. The APEC WeConnect project provides young women with access to resources, and exposure to the benefits of digitalization. We hope that young women can surpass limitations, break rules, learn skills, connect with the world, and realize their own dreams. DHgate.com has high expectations for the APEC WeConnect project as DHgate.com offers many opportunities for females, almost 50% of sellers on DHgate.com are women. In the future we will align with new partners worldwide to benefit females and empower them to succeed in this new era." - Diane Wang, DHgate.com Founder and CEO and Chair of the APEC Women's Leadership Forum
