Youku Updates App for iPad 2 Launch in China

BEIJING, May 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Youku.com Inc. (NYSE: YOKU), China's leading Internet Television company ("Youku"), released an updated free iPad application today, to synchronize its service offerings with the May 6 launch of Apple's iPad 2 in China. The earlier version of the application was ranked top free iPad online video application according to iTunes Rewind 2010, China.

Besides adding iOS 4.3 support, the new Youku iPad application has been updated to take advantage of the new capabilities of iPad 2 hardware -- including a new "shoot and upload" feature that will allow users to record videos using the built-in camera of the iPad 2 and upload them to Youku directly over wireless or 3G networks.

"As technology progresses, we want to make sure we're advancing along with it," said Jian Yao, Youku's Chief Technology Officer. "When 3G mobile networks became a reality in China in May 2009, Youku was one of the earliest companies in China to make its videos accessible on mobile Internet-enabled devices. We want to make sure that our users can view - and now contribute - content regardless of where they are and what device they use."

According to figures from the iTunes Store, Youku's free iPad application was installed 600,000 times over the past 26 weeks, while the free Youku application for the iPhone and iPod Touch was installed 4.13 million times. There are an estimated 10 million devices running iOS in China. Youku has also developed and released applications for other key mobile and tablet platforms, including Android, WebOS, QNX and Symbian.
