BEIJING, Aug. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- At the 3rd Session of China's 12th National People's Congress when the State Council Premier Li Keqiang first put forward the concept of "Internet +" in his government work report that the term officially entered people's view. As a large communications country, whose 4G penetration rate is rising rapidly, China's information communications industry will develop towards technical innovation, business innovation, model innovation and management innovation under the tide of "Internet +," which has been promoted to a national strategy. Under such background, the communications industry will usher in its development "spring" as well.

In the "Internet +" era, new requirements will be put forward for communications networks, terminals and devices in terms of integration, network and storage under different application scenarios. Moreover, high-speed-network-based smart cities, IoT and 4K will get popular in this age. No matter the fact that Internet enterprises like Google setting foot in optical networks and virtual operator, or integrated communications, or terminal evolution, they all will accelerate the upgrading of the communications industry.

The PT/EXPO CHINA 2015 held by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of People's Republic of China, which is the largest ICT event in Asia with 25-year history and the greatest influences, will set up some special areas for IoT, smart terminals, cloud computing and big data, as well as integrated communications to display how "Internet +" will develop in the communications industry by making UHDVs, introducing ultra-fast broadband access and creating fully automatic "smart living" experience different from normal ones, enabling visitors to immerse themselves in the mobile connected world. The billowy "Internet +" age is forcing the communications industry to start a new round of reform, promoting it towards mobile, smart, and cloud-based development!

Embracing the New Mobile Era

As "Internet +" became a sensation overnight, mobility is speeding up its penetration to traditional industries. Various segments are in extremely urgent demand of information development and Internet connection.

Currently, "Internet +" has become a business field with the fastest growth and largest market potential in the information communications sector. Under such background, the mobile multimedia services represented by mobile video are also facing great-leap-forward development. It is expected that by 2020, the data traffic consumed by mobile videos will account for over 70% of the total mobile traffic; video will become an inevitable trend for the rapid development of "Internet +" and smart mobile terminals will see explosive growth.

In 2014, Chinese "Internet +" market maintained high-speed growth and has become a leader in global "Internet +" field. Statistics show that, the scale of Chinese "Internet +" market reached 185.7 billion yuan in 2014, and will grow by 4.5 times in 2017 to approach 600 billion yuan. In this way, it is not only the fastest developing area in the information technology industry but also the one with the fiercest competition. Meanwhile, with the deepening of crossover integration of "Internet +," enterprise-level application is springing up. Mobile taxi-calling, mobile finance, mobile education, mobile health care and so on will generate new developing momentum and mobile life services will keep taking a greater market share in people's lives.

Facilitated by the high-speed development of "Internet +," smart terminals including smart phones, tablets, smart TVs, wearable devices, and smart hardware will be one of the spotlights at this year's PT/EXPO CHINA. They will satisfy people's basic demand of mobile life in the "Internet +" age with their diversified and easy-to-operate human-computer interaction interfaces and available Internet access anywhere any time. Aside from the mobile surprises at this Expo, the humanistic care brought by smart technology will be present.

Smart Life Grows

The continuous development of "Internet +," IoT and cloud computing technologies gradually take smart life into people's views while integrated smart cities are aslo hotly discussed. Although smart life is still in our vision towards future due to limitation by technical development and industrial standards, it is an irresistible trend in this era that focused more on user experience.

Since its emergence in America in 1980s, smart life has continually developed for 30 years. Today, with the penetration of the Internet, almost all industry giants are starting to break the traditional concept of products to accomplish this smart transformation. Traditional industries are connecting with the Internet to explore the new blue sea and our lifestyles are changing quietly. Smart homes, smart terminals, driverless smart cars, smart robots and other high-tech products will release people from the miscellaneous troubles to create a smart and comfortable life.

The PT/EXPO CHINA 2014 set up an area for "Smart Life," which demonstrated and explained what smart life was like through smart light bulbs, smart switches, smart sockets, smart alarms, smart doorbells, smart health detector and more. Now, with the great promotional efforts of operators, the 4G era has come, and more importantly, the 5G technology representing the reform of the next generation communications industry is starting. At this year's PT/EXPO, the "Smart Life" area will open to visitors, displaying more innovative and smart products and depicting a whole-new concept of smart life at the background of communications industry reform.

With the coming of "Internet +" era, and the promotion by relevant governmental departments and Premier Li Keqiang, "encouraging the public to start businesses and innovate" has become a new trend, and batches of "maker" movement spring up across the country. During the PT/EXPO CHINA 2015, an activity called "TOP SHOW Dream Making" will also be organized, at which participants will not only be able to experience changes brought by drones, robots, smart hardware, smart homes and wearable devices to their lives but also have the opportunity to communicate with manufacturers, distributors and investors on the site to stimulate creative inspirations.

Building Cloud-based Networks

The data traffic for global mobile broadband service is astonishingly doubling every 12 months, and in the next 10 years, it will grow by over 500 times. With the surge of network data and traffic at users' terminals, as well as the flourishing development of video interactive sharing, device synergism, IoT and other applications, mobile and cloud-based network development have become a general trend. Network integration, software defined, cloud, virtualization and smartness are gradually acting as the leading forces that guide the next round of network technology reform.

Entering into the 4G era, the mobile network is facing more prominent challenges: larger data volume, more terminals, faster speed, lower latency and more effective battery power. Cloud-based networks will be the key to solve many of these problems. There is a clear trend for mobile networks to embrace the cloud. A virtual cloud will provide more space for operators to expand their new content services and generate more channel models.

Today, when cloud technology is developing rapidly, Huawei, ZTE and some other device manufacturers have jumped into the R&D tide. Since 2007, Huawei has been cooperating with China Mobile to work on joint innovation in mobile core network, and to study methods to replace the traditional telecom platform with an IT platform. In 2012, the two parties officially started their virtualization research and verification on mobile core network. At present, Huawei has carried out NFV joint innovation and project verification with more than 20 leading operators, including China Mobile. It plans to conduct deeper and further cooperation with over 50 industrial partners on NFV in 2015.

As a global leading provider of communication devices and integrated solutions, ZTE insists on tracking and researching new technologies, and network virtualization has always been an important part of its M-ICT strategy. ZTE has joined in over 70 standardization organizations, submitted more than 20,000 proposals, and applied for more than 30,000 patents in China, Europe and America. It is a key promoter for network virtualization. In 2014, ZTE demonstrated the concept of cloud-based/virtualized network as well as VoLTE 4G voice and video communication businesses together with China Mobile. At PT/EXPO 2015, the cloud-based and smart networks will still be a focal point. Along with the latest technologies and solutions for cloud-based network as well as newest application schemes of cloud computing/big data will also be shown. In the future, SDN, cloud storage, virtual desktops, smart terminals, and cloud-based applications will be effective ways to cut down network equipment and operation costs.

Conclusion

At present, as the Internet and other information technologies are accelerating the deep integration with many industries, "Internet +" has become an important trend for development. Therefore, the three telecom operators in China have reached agreement on developing a new generation of network. The fast development of 5G technologies will contribute to wider mobile interconnection. "Internet +" will bring us into a smarter, more mobile and cloud-based era.
