The Hunger Project & XL Group launch 'The Pioneer Club'

SINGAPORE, May 8 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- The Hunger Project and XL Results Foundation have joined forces to provide support for The Hunger Project's India Fund. The Pioneer Club is a new initiative launched by the Singapore based XL Group, which will have a limited membership of only 50 individuals who acknowledge to not only support the India Fund, but to also personally step-up and participate in the eradication of world hunger.

The Hunger Project is a global organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. In Africa, Asia and Latin America, it empowers millions of women and men to end their own hunger and has pioneered low-cost, gender-focused strategies in each region where hunger exists. Its highest priority is the empowerment of women who traditionally bear primary responsibility for family health, education, nutrition and, increasingly, family income.

The founding Pioneer Club members will travel to India in November of this year to further understand the work of The Hunger Project, connecting with others in an extraordinary setting and seeing the tangible results of their giving. Half of The Pioneer Club joining fee will go directly to the Hunger Project's India fund.

Cathy Burke is Chief Executive Officer of The Hunger Project in Australia "This contribution will help train 10,000 women leaders and as a result a measurable 3 million of India's poor will be supported on their steps out of poverty. Every day 20,000 people die as a result of chronic hunger and initiatives such as The Pioneer Club can and will make a difference"

In its role as a leading global entrepreneur and social enterprise network, the XL Group supports various nominated causes -- either through direct giving or working with its entrepreneur network as to how individuals and companies can most effectively give to nominated causes.

Roger Hamilton, Chairman of the XL Group commented "We are alive at a time when humanity could end world hunger. Achieving the sustainable end of hunger means nothing less than creating a new future for all humanity, in which every day, every person has enough of the right food to be healthy and productive. The Pioneer Club is one step in that direction".
