IMA President and CEO Jeff Thomson Visits Malaysia

Thomson supporting the development of the management accounting profession in Southeast Asia at various events

SINGAPORE, Oct. 23, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Jeff Thomson, CMA, CSCA, CAE, president and CEO at IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants), one of the largest and most respected associations focused on the advancement of the management accounting profession, visited Malaysia this week, participating in a panel discussion at the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) Conference.

MIA is the national accountancy body that regulates, develops, supports, and enhances the accountancy profession in Malaysia. At the MIA Conference panel discussion, Thomson addressed how companies can gain trust in a climate of prevailing skepticism and how the finance function can help in building that trust.

During his visit, Thomson also met with companies in Malaysia, including IBM Malaysia's finance and development teams, to discuss management accounting and how the U.S. CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) certification can help their practitioners excel and improve their skills. IMA recently conducted a COSO Internal Control Workshop for Petronas as part of its support for developing the management accounting profession in Malaysia.

"IMA has had a long-standing relationship with MIA through IFAC and supporting great events like this one which truly advance the global accountancy profession," said Thomson. "It was great to meet with employers, professionals, students, associations, and training/advisory firms in working together to build and maintain trust in a digital age. IMA and its fast-growing U.S. CMA certification are proud to be leaders in advancing competency in ethics, leadership, strategy, controls, operations and technology."

The MIA Conference took place on October 22 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center.
