Leather and Leathergoods Fairs Open in Shanghai, 4 - 6 September

2012-09-04 12:00 6565

HONG KONG, Sept. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE), China International Footwear Fair (CIFF) and Moda Shanghai are three synergetic fairs that have been the window to the world of China's burgeoning leather and leathergoods industries for the past 15 years.  They will run from September 4 to 6 and are collocated at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Pudong, Shanghai.

ACLE is a business platform aimed at the Chinese market and in this way attracts international exhibitors that wish to penetrate it and find new customers. For Chinese exhibitors, the opportunity exists for them to sell to the major domestic (Chinese) buyers that come to Shanghai but, at the same time, benefit from doing business with other exhibitors. For example, a footwear manufacturer from Dongguan may buy finished leather from a tannery exhibitor from Brazil. Or a Chinese tannery may source new chemicals from a German exhibitor. Trade between exhibitors is quite usual at a fair such as ACLE where the whole supply chain of the leather industry, from raw hides to tanning machinery and chemicals, right through to semi- and finished leathers, is represented.

Growing International Participation

This year's international participation is led by Focus Country Turkey which is among the top ten countries in world leather production, the second biggest leather manufacturer in Europe and one of the top four in the world in terms of ovine leather processing. For double-face leather, it is the world leader with a processing capacity of 80 million units per year.

Istanbul Leather and Leather Products Exporters' Association (ITKIB) and Turkish Leather Council (TLC) Chairman Lemi Tolunay remarked: "We are proud to be presented at the ACLE as the focus country. China is a very important market for Turkish leather and chemical producers and ACLE is the best venue to meet Chinese partners for new opportunities."

Through the Brazilian Leather Project, Brazil will have 13 tanneries exhibiting in ACLE, the highest Brazilian participation to date. This is an initiative of the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industries (CICB) with Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex).

ACLE's two allied fairs are enjoying significant growth and expansion as well. The China International Footwear Fair (CIFF) and Moda Shanghai, which focuses on up-market leather garments and leather goods, were originally conceived as events where Chinese suppliers could meet with Chinese customers. But, in recent years, international interest in the fairs has grown. This September, Moda Shanghai will play host to the first-ever Thailand pavilion consisting of 6 Thai handbag and fashion accessories companies. Moda Shanghai also welcomes 18 leather garments producers from India, led by representatives of the Indian Council for Leather Export (CLE).

Perrine Ardouin, Event Director of the APLF Fashion Team, co-organisers of the three fairs, points out that "despite economic uncertainty in all world markets, the leather sector remains in relatively good shape. The domestic market (in China) for leather garments, shoes, bags and other finished goods is holding up well."

About All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE)

The All China Leather Exhibition is generally accepted as the premier event for international companies seeking opportunities in China's huge and still under-supplied market.

With some 14 years experience no other event in the China leather sector provides a comparable opportunity for overseas companies to meet and greet, face-to-face, with potential Chinese partners, customers and suppliers.

Held annually in Shanghai, in early autumn, ACLE provides the largest variety of leather, components and accessories, manufacturing equipment, tools, machinery, technology, and business services. There is a full programme of seminars and presentations, both off- and on-site.

In 2011, 1,090 exhibitors from 37 countries and regions, were present. The forthcoming 2012 event is on track to improve further upon these numbers.

APLF's partner in this prestigious event is China's only official recognised leather sector organisation, the China Leather Industry Association.

The exhibition runs concurrently with CIFF and Moda Shanghai.

Registered visitors can enter 3 exhibitions and attend all the conference, seminars, and attractions - visit www.aclechina.com for more information.
