Magna Celebrates Grand Opening of Powertrain Facility in China

SHANGHAI, Aug. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Magna International Inc. announced today that its Magna Powertrain operating unit celebrated the grand opening of a new facility in the Tianjin Airport Economic Area. Company officials were joined by members of the Tianjin local government as well as executives from Volkswagen Group.

The new, state-of-the-art facility is approximately 13,500 square meters and will employ as many as 400 people at full production. The facility will initially produce rear axle drive modules and power take-off units for locally assembled Volkswagen and Audi models in China, and will serve as a center of excellence for driveline products.

"This new facility will serve both current and future automotive customers, and is a great example of our commitment to the Chinese market as well as customers like Volkswagen."

Tianjin is Magna Powertrain's sixth location in China since establishing their first operation in Changzhou in 2005, and it represents Magna's 26th manufacturing facility in the country.
