Philips at CMEF: Innovation Shapes The Future of Healthcare

CHENGDU, China, Oct. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Philips made a spectacular appearance at the China International Medical Equipment Fair 2012 (CMEF) and showed all its latest innovations in the fields of imaging systems, patient monitoring, clinical information and primary health care, highlighting the development trends for the future of healthcare. With a “People-focused” concept, Philips Healthcare bases R&D and design of all its new products on the needs of care givers and patients in a bid to improve diagnostic accuracy and workflow efficiency. The epoch-making MX 800 monitor series and the “Digital, MultiTransmit and Intelligent” MRI family were the center of attention at the fair.

The appearance of the MX 800 monitor series astonished all the visitors to the fair. As a new generation of intelligent monitors, the MX 800 series can centralize to the bedside all the clinical information that currently scatters across the hospital, significantly streamlining the workflow for doctors and safeguarding the health of patients. Clinical data can be constantly upgraded and added with more applications. The embedded clinical decision support system has broken the traditional alarm monitoring model and evolved to the higher-level “early warning” model. The smart performance is mainly attributable to the dual-core and dual-net technologies that are employed in the monitors. As the monitor and the iPC are working separately, with one net connected with the monitor central station, the other with the intranet of hospital, the monitor allows for the seamless transmission of hospital information and smart integration of system information. Previous clinical research reveals that Philips' MX 800 series monitors are most effective for intensive and anesthesia care.

Philips' MR family show impressed visitors as well. The leading concepts of “Digital, MultiTransmit and Intelligent” raised by Philips herald the future trend of MR. Mr. Desmond Thio, President of Philips Healthcare Greater China, said, “Philips is the first across the globe to propose ‘Digital, multi-transmit and intelligent’ MR solutions, which will bring about another MR revolution. These innovations will help medical workers to achieve the mission of smart operation and accurate imaging of MRI systems and the enhancement of research and clinical capabilities."

Compared to previous events, CMEF 2012 attracted a record number of new products by Philips Healthcare. “Philips has been attaching importance to the role of innovation in our development. In 2011, Philips invested EUR100 million in the Chinese market for R&D purposes, and the Philips imaging system facility soon to be finished in Suzhou will further strengthen Philips' R&D and production capabilities of serving the local market," said Mr. Desmond Thio.

Philips also released the new Ingenuity CT for the first time at the fair. Despite growing use of 64-row CT in China, Philips is not resting on its laurels but is committed to enhancing the performance of 64-row CT through software and hardware innovations to help hospitals better serve their patients. Through the adoption of the Nano II detector and iDose4 premium package, Ingenuity has achieved leapfrog progress in image quality and brought CT scanning into a micro-radiation epoch. Use of iPatient, a patient focused intelligent workflow, streamlines workflow and automatically optimizes scanning and injecting. In addition, Philips' DSA system, Allura Xper FD, also made its debut at the event. Using its unique Clarity IQ technology, Philips has raised the control of DSA dosage to a new level, which ensures superb image quality at a low dose. “A long time ago we started to pay close attention to both patient and physician dose safety during intervention, and this also reflects how we are people-focused," said Mr. Desmond Thio.

Apart from the products mentioned above, Philips also released other primary care products, including HD5-9 ultrasound machines, dual-slice spiral CT, 16-row CT, mobile X-ray machine, 1.5T MRI system, and a variety of monitors, which can thoroughly meet the clinical and diagnostic needs of the primary healthcare market.
