2012-02-24 20:29 1964

HONG KONG, Feb. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- As part of the company's continuing investment and commitment to China, UBM (www.ubm.com) launched the first China Leadership Development Programme (C-LDP) in 2011. This multidisciplinary programme is designed to develop and enhance the skills of the Mandarin-speaking executives and managers in UBM's diverse companies in China, one of its key growth markets. 20 senior managers from nine UBM divisions participated in the year-long programme and graduated in February 2012.

In this intensive training programme, senior leaders from UBM's diverse set of China offices are encouraged to make professional and personal breakthroughs and get to know each other as colleagues and friends. Participants attend classroom-based learning sessions; work on group-based assignments, and are provided with individual 360 degree feedback and coaching.

The C-LDP is a crucial part of the pyramid of UBM's talent management initiative, together with the global Business Leaders Programme (BLP) -- which has had seven Chinese participants throughout the years, Asia Business Leaders Programme Alumni (Asia BLP Alumni) and various divisional training programmes, all focused on motivating and retaining the right talent for the company.

According to Philip Chapnick, Group Chief Representative for UBM in China: "Our investment in our people and our continuing efforts to raise their skills levels to international standards is a core -- and fully integrated -- component of our global business strategy. We are very pleased with the achievements of the 2011 graduates. Over 40% of them have already been deployed to new roles; contributing to UBM's fast-growing businesses in China and offering even better service and greater value to our customers and partners across the country."

Comments from participants:

"I feel proud of going through this 1-year leadership journey together with so many outstanding peers."

"I learned a lot from not only the programme but also from each of you. The most amazing thing is to find more and more discretionary effort being generated from my direct reports after applying behaviour coaching in the daily work."

"C-LDP program helps me get a deeper grasp of what capabilities a leader needs to be equipped with to be successful. A series of leadership models and intriguing interactions among classmates really kept me engaged throughout the program. C-LDP program has a comprehensive curriculum that really compensates what I need to be a good leader and role model."

"Learning, sharing, improving."

22 candidates have been nominated to the second China Leadership Development Programme which will start in March 2012.
