ALBANY, New York, Sept. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- XOS has announced the worldwide release of Cadence™, a new cadmium analyzer that delivers best-in-class limit of detection for cadmium in soil below the China Agricultural regulatory limit of 0.3 ppm. In addition, Cadence offers simultaneous measurement of other heavy metals like As, Pb, Cu, Ni, and Cr in soil and agricultural products such as rice and wheat. It is the ideal solution for agricultural inspectors and environmental assessors.

Mike Palmer, Vice President of Sales for XOS, believes this will be a game-changer for environmental remediation. "Existing instruments do not offer quantifiable analysis of cadmium and other heavy metals in soil and food. Cadence is a portable solution allowing you to run more samples in less time, and conduct a more thorough analysis for improved site remediation and land use decisions."
Soil contamination with heavy metals has become a critical problem in regions with rapid industrialization and economic growth. Cadmium (Cd) is of special interest as a potential carcinogen because of its high mobility in soil with water, and its uptake by grains such as rice and wheat, which are important dietary staples. Early work characterizing Cd soil contamination has relied on wet chemistry techniques, such as ICP-MS or AAS, to achieve the level of sensitivity for quantification at regulatory limits. However, wet chemistry requires an expensive analytical lab, highly trained staff, and imposes time constraints for feedback due to sample logistics, preparation and analytical process which often take over a week to gather results. With comparable results to wet chemistry, Cadence is a viable alternative solution.
Cadence is powered by High Definition X-ray Fluorescence (HDXRF®) technology: an elemental analysis technique offering significantly enhanced detection performance over traditional Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) technology. This technique applies state-of-the-art monochromating and focusing optics, enabling dramatically higher signal-to-background ratio compared to traditional polychromatic X-ray Fluorescence.
