World Blood Donor Day

Safe blood supplies are a scarce commodity – especially in developing countries. World Blood Donor Day is an occasion to raise awareness of the problem, give thanks to blood donors worldwide and to encourage others to donate and volunteer. It is held annually on June 14. Many events are held around the world on June 14 to mark World Blood Donor Day. These include football matches, concerts and mobile blood donation clinics. In 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) sets the theme as “Thank you for saving my life” and highlights stories from people whose lives have been saved through blood donation with an aim to motivate current regular blood donors to continue donating blood and people in good health who have never given blood to begin doing so.
