SUWON, South Korea, May 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- A massive K-pop concert will be held in Suwon, south of Seoul, next month to mark the 2016 Visit Suwon Hwaseong Year, event organizers said Monday.
The Suwon K-pop Super Concert will be held on June 17 and 18 at the Suwon World Cup Stadium under the theme "Love & Love" to represent love for neighbors, for the city of Suwon and for Korean culture. Celebrity idols are lined up in full for the event that also celebrates the 220th anniversary of the dedication of the Suwon-Hwaseong city fortress and reflects the resolve of Suwon city to turn itself into a leading tourist destination.
The June 17 concert will be a preshow that features electronic dance music accompanied by a 3D laser show. Ailee, U-KISS, LABOUM, Seventeen, Gfriend and TWICE are scheduled to appear at the event.
For the main concert on June 18, the lineup includes EXO, MAMAMOO, UP10TION and SS301.
The stage motif for the main concert will show the majesty and grandeur of the Suwon-Hwaseong city fortress. Together with seats on the stadium grounds, some 28,800 seats will be set up for the concert in three tiers.
The city of Suwon said it has succeeded in drawing 3,500 visitors from Asian countries such as Japan, China, Singapore and Malaysia to come to the super concert through local tour agencies. Profits from ticket sales will be delivered to the Gyeonggi Province branch of the Community Chest of Korea.
There will be multiple side events at the concert to show the history and culture of the city. The "History Zone" will introduce all major events for the 2016 Visit Suwon Hwaseong Year, while the "Stage Zone" will feature signing events by idol stars and performances by indie bands and B-boy artists. The "Photo Zone" will provide opportunities to take photos with actors and actresses from dramas popularized inside and outside of the country, and the "K-food Zone" will serve South Korea's well-known foods and beverages.
"The concert will be arranged as a comprehensive festival that combines hands-on experience and collaborative performances," an official in the Suwon city government said. "We plan to proceed with various programs so that the daily 30,000 people visiting Suwon will understand and experience the city."
