Enhancing customer experiences with technology and supporting Hong Kong's development into an international innovation and technology hub

HONG KONG, March 28, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK) and Sino Group jointly present Hong Kong's first in-mall 5G Experience Showcase, 'The Future is Now',  at Olympian City 2. Today, Mr Kenneth Lau, Chairman of the Communication Association of Hong Kong; Dr Li Feng, Chairman of CMHK; Mr David Ng, Group General Manager of Sino Group; Dr Max Ma, Director & Executive Vice President of CMHK; Mr Sunny Yeung, Executive Director of Sino Group, celebrated the launch of 'The Future is Now' 5G Experience Showcase together with other illustrious guests.

The showcase will be held for four days, from 28 to 31 March 2019.  It comprises six experience zones to introduce and demonstrate the 5G technology. Through exhibiting interactive devices -- including the Invincible Janken Machine, Smart Glasses and an autonomous vehicle, etc. -- the showcase will enable visitors to understand more about 5G technology, its benefits and the integral role it will play in the future. The general public can connect to the 5G public WiFi with smart devices from 1 to 7 April 2019.

Dr Li Feng, Chairman of China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK), said, 'We are very pleased to work with Sino Group in developing the first 5G showcase, "The Future is Now". As one of the city's leading mobile network operators, CMHK is imperative to proactively advancing the development of Hong Kong's 5G mobile communication network. Out of Hong Kong's many mobile carriers, CMHK is the first network provider to receive the 5G trial permit, and has succeeded in engineering Hong Kong's first end-to-end 5G network testing as well as the first Commercial Equipment Field-Testing of 28GHz 5G base stations. In the future, CMHK will continue to adhere to the concept of '4G changes lives, 5G changes society' by presenting "5G+ Project" in three agendas: firstly, to complement the existing 4G network with 5G infrastructure; to promote 5G with new networking technology; and develop more comprehensive 5G ecosystems to maximise the value of 5G.'

Six Experience Zones

Zone One: Invincible Janken Machine

Invincible Janken Machine evaluates its opponent's gesture through a sensory system by using 5G leased lines which make it 'Invincible'

Zone Two: The Journey to 5G

Zone Two displays an autonomous vehicle jointly developed by CMHK and ASTRI to show how 5G technology can create a more advanced society

Zone Three : 4G vs 5G Data Speeds Battle

The 5G download speed can be 10-20 times faster than 4G. The audience can experience how much faster 5G is than 4G in this area.

Zone Four: OC STEM One Step Ahead

Zone Four displays two pairs of smart glasses. Participants can put on the smart glasses and experience a distant tutorial to solve a puzzle. When 5G technology becomes more mature, telemedicine will become a common facet of life.

Zone Five: OneNET Start-up Exhibition

CMHK hosted the first "China Mobile OneNET Start-ups Marathon Competition" in 2018, using the "Smart City Blueprint" as the main theme, to nurture local talents and contribute to the vision of Hong Kong Smart City by leveraging IoT technology. This area displays the work of elite teams across the world to the public for a better understanding of 5G technology.

Zone Six:  The achievements of CMHK 5G Innovation Center and Sino Group implementation of various technological solutions.

CMHK and Sino Group are proactively supporting Hong Kong's transformation into a "smart city" by developing pre-5G infrastructure across Sino Group's residential and commercial properties, using CMHK's Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) technology as a solution to improving quality of life.

Sino Group also plans to install 5G infrastructure in its other properties.
