Partnering with Bangkok Airways to maintain the strong presence of MICE travelers from CLMV

BANGKOK, July 15, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) (Public Organization) kicked off the 5-day CLMV Media Familiarization Trip 2019 today under the theme "Honor Your Creation". TCEB is hosting members of the press from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) to a first-hand experience of the latest developments in Bangkok and Pattaya and an overview of Thailand as a destination for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Exhibitions). To sustain the strong momentum of MICE arrivals from CLMV, TCEB has teamed up with Bangkok Airways to launch the "Fly and Meet Double Bonus Redefined" campaign, which offers exclusive privileges for MICE travelers from CLMV.

Mrs. Nichapa Yoswee, TCEB Senior Vice President, said, "The 'Honor Your Creation' media fam trip is part of TCEB's strategy to maintain Thailand's strong appeal among MICE travelers from CLMV market following the remarkable 206% increase in their arrival numbers in 2018. This year, TCEB has selected Bangkok and Pattaya to showcase the two destinations' varied array of new products for international MICE. The cities are excellent examples of the continuous renewal and diversification that have earned Thailand the accolade of being the top MICE destination in the region. Hence, it is timely for the CLMV press to gain a personal understanding of the recent developments so that they can promote Thailand more effectively to their audiences."

The 2019 fam trip is guided by TCEB's new branding called "Thailand Redefine Your Business Events", which emphasizes better return-on-investment and better return-on-time for the MICE travelers through new partnerships and creative solutions.

In this regard, TCEB has partnered Bangkok Airways for the "Fly and Meet Double Bonus - Redefined" campaign, which offers a range of exclusive privileges for CLMV MICE travelers. These privileges include financial rewards, use of the special MICE Lane at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport, and cultural performances courtesy of TCEB, Mrs. Nichapa elaborated.

Mr. Varong Israsena Na Ayudhya, Vice President - Sales of Bangkok Airways, said, "Bangkok Airways is pleased to partner TCEB for this media fam trip. As our network covers CLMV, we provide the most convenient access to Thailand for CLMV travelers. We hope this fam trip will inspire the CLMV press to promote Thailand as a preferred destination for MICE. Under the "Fly and Meet Double Bonus - Redefined" joint campaign with TCEB, we are offering special privileges to CLMV MICE groups consisting of at least 30 persons, flying with Bangkok Airways, staying a minimum 2 nights or holding an event at a venue certified by the Thailand MICE Venue Standard (TMVS). These privileges include one complimentary ticket per group of 30 travelers, double reward points, priority boarding and extra baggage allowance."

The "Fly and Meet Double Bonus - Redefined" campaign is open for application from now until 31 August. Travel must be completed by 30 September, 2019.

In addition to the joint campaign with Bangkok Airways, MICE travelers can also take advantage of two other TCEB campaigns. The first is "MICE Thailand Signature", where 262 outlets are offering discounts of up to 30% to overseas MICE travelers to enhance their business-plus-leisure experience in Thailand. The outlets are grouped into 6 business categories: health & wellness, gourmet & cuisine, cafes & bars, lifestyle (shopping), shows & entertainment and classes & workshop (Muay Thai, Thai cooking, etc.)

The second is "360 Degree Exhibition Success" campaign, which provides incentives that will help CLMV exhibitors and trade visitors achieve better return-on-investment when they travel to Thailand to participate in international trade shows.

Mrs. Nichapa said Bangkok and Pattaya are selected for this fam trip because these cities have significantly expanded their MICE infrastructure and facilities. There are upgraded function spaces and new venues and attractions that will inspire MICE planners to design fresh, captivating programs that combine modern luxuries with Thailand's unique cultural heritage.

Developments taking place in Pattaya are particularly noteworthy because it is the gateway to the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), the Thai government's high-profile infrastructure and industrial development masterplan spanning three provinces to the east of Bangkok. Large-scale projects already underway include the high-speed rail linking Pattaya, Bangkok and their three airports, and the expansion of Pattaya's U-Tapao International Airport.

The business landscape in Thailand today is full of opportunities. Thailand hosted 22 UFI-approved international trade shows in 2018, the highest number in ASEAN, and the largest number of shows in high-tech industries such as automation and robotics. In the cities like Pattaya and Khon Kaen, venues for international trade shows have either opened or been expanded, giving organizers more options to stage their events. Over the last decade, Thailand has grown to become a destination for world-class trade shows. Entrepreneurs and corporations from CLMV will find many opportunities to connect with the world when they participate in a trade show in Thailand, added Mrs. Nichapa.

Mr. Varong added that Bangkok Airways currently operates one daily flight from U-Tapao International Airport in Pattaya to Phuket and one daily flight from Pattaya to Koh Samui. These daily connections make it easy for incentive planners to design tailored programs that showcase the many facets of Thailand.

The number of MICE travelers from CLMV to Thailand totaled 151,087 in 2018, up a substantial 206% year-on-year from 49,270 in 2017. In the first and second quarters of the fiscal year 2019 (October 2018 - March 2019), Thailand recorded 46,352 MICE travelers from CLMV (Vietnam 18,352; Lao PDR 16,530; Myanmar 8,750; and Cambodia 2,680).
