HONG KONG, Sept. 29, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- New research from leading global research firm Ipsos (www.ipsos.com) shows overwhelming support for the pilots of the Hong Kong Aircrew Officers Association ("HKAOA") (www.hkaoa.org). Representing the Hong Kong based pilots of Cathay Pacific, the HKAOA's members fly the people of Hong Kong to the world and bring the world to Hong Kong.
The Ipsos research was conducted from September 3-7, 2020 and polled 1,000 Hong Kong residents aged 18-55+. The findings showed strong levels of perceived importance and value of the pilots of the HKAOA:
Mr Chris Beebe, General Secretary of the HKAOA said today, "On behalf of the pilots of the HKAOA, we would like to say "thank you" to the people of Hong Kong. Hong Kong is our home and the vast majority of our pilots live here. We undertook this research as we wanted to understand how our pilots are perceived by the Hong Kong community and we were delighted with the strong levels of recognition and support."
The Ipsos data also shows that many Hong Kong people were unaware of the realities of life as a pilot in the HKAOA. Just 23% are aware that since 2009, all newly hired pilots have been employed on local contracts.
"The reality of life as an HKAOA pilot in 2020 is very different to previous years and the idea that our membership enjoys generous salaries and benefits is outdated. However, the majority of Hong Kong people are unaware of HKAOA pilots' local contract status. Looking ahead, our message to our families and friends in Hong Kong and around the world is very simple: you can rely on the men and women of the HKAOA to be your bridge to the world, both during the pandemic and when the world is flying again. Our message to Cathay Pacific is equally simple: amidst the turbulence in global aviation, our membership faces the challenge together with their company."
