-Congratulations Hong Kong! The Great Place to Work Institute is announcing the first group of "Best Companies to Work for® in Hong Kong 2016"

HONG KONG, BEIJING and TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Imagine Hong Kong as a BIG company; what is happening in it? How big would the turnover be? What will happen if we measure absenteeism? And what about the infrastructure offered? Is it helping innovation? Is this "Company HK" attracting or retaining talent? How would the answers to these questions impact the overall results in the long run? What are the costs of sustaining our status? Mr. Jose Bezanilla, CEO of Greater China, asked the audience in the opening speech of the "Best Companies to Work for in Hong Kong 2016" ceremony.

Matthew Cheung Kin-Chung, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr. Jose Carlos Bezanilla, Great Place to Work(R) Greater China’ CEO and the Best Practices Partners at the Best Companies to Work For(R) Hong Kong Event.

Great Place to Work® walked us through this idea, offering quite a lot of initiatives with the goal of making Hong Kong a Great Workplace!

The guest of honor was Mr. Matthew Cheung, Ministry of Labor and Welfare of the Hong Kong government, who spoke briefly but passionately about the opportunities for Hong Kong related to the event and its many initiatives.

"Our mission is to build a better society, by helping companies to become great workplaces; and that's our goal forHong Kong: make it a Great Workplace," Bezanilla said. "And, we're launching initiatives for this goal." The most ambitious, yet incredibly interesting: the Hong Kong Index; in coordination with Classified Post, a group of associations of professionals and academic institutions, it's an indicator that will measure and reference the statusof infrastructure, the quality of work-life balance, engagement and work environment among other important aspects.

The goals are quite important: sustaining and enhancing the competitive edge of HK, giving a clear indicator to the business community of how we're doing as a city, and to retain, attract and develop talent.

"If we want to make this happen in Hong Kong we need to ride the trend of change in leadership and managing people by taking care of them, increasing the quality of life of the employees. By doing so, they will take care of improving overall performance results,"Bezanilla said.

Hong Kong is in need of constant improvement in its productivity and innovation."We have to measure, analyzeand implement strategic and innovative Best Practices in order to catch up," said Denzel Xin, Head Analyst of the Institute.

The complimentary project with the Index is a collaborative, balanced and multifunctional Council that will help setup the right set of data to be included, do analysis and give feedback on the findings. All of this can raise the level of awareness for business leaders, institutions and even educators.

Today, Great Place to Work® also presented a very innovative way of integrating services, a project called "Best Practices Partners". "Think about it as a concierge of professional solutions (Best Practices) for companiesthat want to know how they can do better. We have to provide innovation and quality; and that's what we offer with the Companies that are our Best Practices Partners," commented Mirley Perez, BDM of Great Place to Work®. Added value and innovation is embedded in this win-win-win (3 winners!) scheme where we saw names like TLC, Tacsen, Quuvee, Positive Psychology, Dale Carnegie, Talent+ and Habitat for Humanity, all of them with a local feeling of workplace culture.

Also shown were finalist videos of the "We Have a Great Story" video contest. The contest shows different company cultures in a story-sharing style. Great Place to Work® made a donation to a charity in the name of the winning company.

And of course, the cherry on the top: the first 8 companies on the list of "Best Companies to Work for® in Hong Kong 2016" are:

  • DHL Express
  • Hyatt Hotels & Resorts
  • Kiabi Supply
  • Mars Hong Kong
  • Meltwater
  • NetApp Hong Kong
