The Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability Awards (ACES) recognises successful companies and individuals in Asia across two main domains; leadership and corporate social responsibility. The Awards recognise the achievements of local and multinational businesses for their contributions to the communities in which they do business in, as well as society, the environment and the world at large.
This year's Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability Awards was held at the InterContinental Hotel, Singapore on 26 October 2017. A total of 193 nominees and 41 winners were present at this celebration of revolutionary leadership and sustainability in companies operating in the Asian region. The ACES Awards is organised by the MORS Group whose mission is to assist companies, corporate leaders and industrialists to share a platform to exhibit leadership and sustainability excellence by learning from market experts across the world. Announced on the night were the most prolific winners of the awards for Entrepreneur of the Year (W.K.H Wegapitiya of LAUGFS Holdings Limited, Sri Lanka), Woman Entrepreneur of the Year (Dato' Farshila Binti Emran of Pharmaniaga Berhad, Malaysia), Young Entrepreneur of the Year (Yenn Wong of JIA Group, Hong Kong) and Industry Champion of the Year (PT Pan Brothers TBK, Indonesia).
The Entrepreneur of the Year and Woman Entrepreneur of the Year awards laud illustrious entrepreneurs who have shown the extraordinary ability of being able to communicate their vision to stakeholders while leading their respective organisations effectively. The Young Entrepreneur of the Year award recognises a visionary who is 40 years or below whose company has shown exceptional business performance and who can be held up as an inspiration for aspiring young leaders.
There were two winners for the Top Companies In Asia award, namely Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC and Pharmaniaga Berhad. Six companies were named as Top SMEs In Asia. These were the Asian Institute of Management, Keyframe Inc, Rakyat Holdings Sdn Bhd, Talk Focus Sdn Bhd, Pee Bee Management Services (PCT) Limited and Reyes Tacandong & Co.
Management personalities who scored high in the Outstanding Leaders In Asia category included six stellar industry notables, namely Kay Khoon Khoo of A. Shulman Plastic (M) Sdn Bhd; Scott D. Smith of Beyonics Pte Ltd; Ron Tan of Cityneon Holdings Limited, Peter Karl Grimes of FWD Life Philippines, Danilo Sebastian L. Reyes of Genpact Services LLC; Tan Sri Lim Hock San of LBS Bina Group Berhad and Ho Ren Hua of Thai Wah PLC.
Sydney Quays from the Berjaya Food Berhad was the year's only Eminent Leaders in Asia category winner, for his role in developing the coffee giant in the Malaysian market. Quays is a pioneer with Berjaya Starbucks Coffee Company and was instrumental in the 1998 establishment of the Starbucks brand in Malaysia. He now oversees the overall operational management and strategy for Berjaya Starbucks Coffee Company and Berjaya Food Supreme.
Under the broad Sustainability category umbrella, Ayala Land, Inc. was named Most Socially Responsible Company of the Year, while Siam City Cement (Vietnam) Limited won the prestigious Green Company of the Year award. Mitr Phol Sugar Corp Ltd snapped up the Community Care Company of the Year. Concentrix Corporation was 2017's Best Company to Work for of the Year. Concentrix Corporation's focus on the happiness and well-being of its staff has led to improved customer satisfaction, with staff members consistently winning client awards for their excellence and talent.
There were four Top Green Companies in Asia: Commercial Bank of Ceylon, Fraser Centrepoint Limited, Miramar Group and Sembcorp Industries Ltd. There were four winners for Top Community Care Companies in Asia, which were Clark Water Corporation, China Overseas Holding Limited, Geely Automobile Holdings Limited and UTC Climate, Controls & Security.
FrieslandCampina (Hong Kong) Limited, Phinma Energy Corporation, Thai Union Group PCL, Universal Harvester Incorporated were the four Top CSR Advocates in Asia. Berjaya Starbucks Coffee Company and Genpact Services LLC (Philippines Branch) are distinguished winners under the Top Companies to Work for in Asia category, while there were three winners for the Responsible SMEs in Asia category: Equator Pure Nature Co,. Ltd, Green & Smart Sdn Bhd and LiveWIRE Brunei.
