It is acknowledged that hydrogen is a clean energy carrier, and is a link for interaction between transmission and integration of multiple energy sources and one of the cores of the future clean low-carbon energy system. Thus, its development has become an important direction in the global energy technology revolution, and the development of hydrogen fuel cell applications has played a significant role in the popularization and development of hydrogen energy. In the past two years, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles have developed rapidly in China. According to the statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, 2,833 and 2,737 fuel cell vehicles were produced and sold respectively in 2019, representing year-on-year growth of 85.5% and 79.2%. By the end of 2019, China had a cumulative total of 6,000 fuel cell vehicles. In addition, around 110 fuel cell-related companies were established in China within two months this year. It predicts that a scale of nearly 10,000 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles will be achieved by the end of 2020.

Guaranteeing safety and quality to safeguard hydrogen and fuel cell technology application

The congress focused on hot and difficult topics for the industry such as the commercialized development of fuel cell vehicles, the application of hydrogen in energy transformation, hydrogen and fuel cell technology innovation and industry chain cultivation, synergetic development of policy and industry, international cooperation and trans-regional coordination, etc., and explored the best development path for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles at home and abroad. By doing so, it aimed to jointly promote the integrative development of hydrogen and fuel cell technology and achieve a win-win situation for the industry.

Li Weichun, Global Head of Power Electronics Business Segment and General Manager of Greater China Solar & Commercial Products at TUV Rheinland, delivered a keynote speech at the "Redefining the future-oriented hydrogen supply system for vehicles" sub-forum. He shared his insights with the participants on how to safeguard hydrogen and fuel cell technology applications by guaranteeing safety and quality from the perspectives of the complete industry chain, standard system construction, quality and technical strength improvement, and safety assurance.

"In recent years, TUV Rheinland has committed itself to providing one-stop technology solutions for the full hydrogen energy and fuel cell industry chain to escort technology applications," said Li. "Our service covers electrolytic hydrogen, hydrogen storage systems, valves, pipelines, and hydrogen cylinders, hydrogen refueling stations, fuel cell vehicles, fuel cell engines, fuel cell stacks, fuel cell power generation systems, supply chains, etc. We can provide technical support and safety guarantees for companies at all links in the industry chain, promoting the safe, sound, and sustainable development of the hydrogen energy and fuel cell industry."

Meanwhile, to provide a stage to launch and display the latest technology and products in the field of hydrogen fuel cells, a "technical speech area" was set up at the exhibition with guests invited to share their cutting-edge technology and products. Henry Fu, Project Manager of TUV Rheinland Greater China Industrial Services & Cybersecurity, explained the differences between type test projects for hydrogen cylinders and valves in domestic and international standards, and introduced how to satisfy multiple standard requirements with one test to provide a reasonable and effective approach for enterprises to reduce type test expenses.

First-time TUV Rheinland participation in FCVC to showcase technology solutions covering full industry chain

As a new exhibitor, TUV Rheinland fully demonstrated its comprehensive technology solutions in the field of hydrogen energy and fuel cells at the congress. Meanwhile, during the congress TUV Rheinland signed memoranda of strategic cooperation with Shanghai Re-Fire Technology Co., Ltd., Hefei Kewell Power System Co., Ltd., and Jiangsu Huade Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd., and will conduct deep cooperation with these enterprises in the field of hydrogen energy and fuel cells, including product safety and performance testing and certification, laboratory establishment, technical exchange, and personnel training. TUV Rheinland also issued a certificate of conformity for the hydrogen fuel cell system developed by Jiangsu Huade, declaring compliance with EU directive requirements for CE-EMC.
