118 public transportation escalators: Hitachi Elevator wins bid in phase I construction of Jinan Rail Transit's R2 line

JINAN, China, May 17, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Hitachi Elevator won a bid in the phase I portion of the construction of Jinan Rail Transit's R2 line on March 19. The 118 public transportation escalators will be part of Jinan's development plans for its rail transportation network.

Phase I of Jinan Rail Transit's R2 line is approx. 36.39 km in length, of which 34.556 km is underground, 1.598 km passes through a viaduct and 0.236 km is above the ground. The line will have 19 stations, including 18 underground stations and one that is elevated. This 22.8 billion yuan (approx. US$3.32 billion) project started in January 2017 and it is estimated to start operations at the end of December 2021. Hitachi Elevator won the bid for the following nine stations: Wangfuzhuang, Renjiazhuang, Lashan, Xierhuan, Yanqianhu, Baliqiao, Wanshengbei, Baohuajie as well as the Inter-city Bus Station.

Issues associated with most escalators installed in public transportation facilities are that there are often more passengers than expected and the environment where the escalators need to be placed is quite complex. Hitachi Elevator's public transportation escalators, a high-efficiency passenger transportation solution, have been widely used in locales where the passenger traffic can become highly intense, such as subway stations, airports, railway stations as well as in convention and exhibition centers. With precise design and measures to protect the passengers from the elements when the escalator must be placed in the open, Hitachi Elevator's escalators can meet the heavy load standards under various environmental conditions, leading the industry in terms of performance, including waterproof, dustproof, anticorrosive and lightning resistance.
