Hong Kong Celebrates the 400th Anniversary of Cervantes with a "Don Quixote" Musical

HONG KONG, Nov. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hong Kong City Hall Theater will host East of La Mancha: Songs inspired by "Don Quixote" on 9th November 2016, a gala concert to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of the Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes. His masterpiece, Don Quixote of La Mancha, is considered the first modern novel. This concert will feature works from Spanish zarzuela to French art song and Broadway musical inspired by the hero Don Quixote and sung by Hong Kong's leading operatic singers. Some of these pieces are going to be performed in Hong Kong for the first time. The music will be accompanied by readings of excerpts from Don Quixote and from the poetry anthology Quixotica: Poems East of La Mancha. Supported by the Consulates of Spain and Mexico in Hong Kong and Macao, this unique event blends music and literature across cultures and genres.
