SINGAPORE, Sept. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Metta Charity Run 2017 in its 8th year running, saw great success for the event that was held on 26 August 2017 with over 1,200 runners and more than SGD100,000 raised.
The Metta Charity Run 2017 was held at the OCBC Square, Sports Hub and started from 7.30am as it embraced a Superhero theme to honour our supporters, donors and volunteers.
Gracing the event as our Guest-of-Honour was Mr Seah Kian Peng, MP for Marine Parade GRC, together with Ms Jessica Tan, MP for East Coast GRC, who participated as a Special Guest. Our key contributors including Singapore Pools and Tote Board, Changi Simei Grassroots Organisations, Component Technology and Jack Investment Pte Ltd received Tokens of Appreciation.
This non-competitive run consisted of 3 categories of Legendary 10km, Powerful 5km and Dynamic Duo Parent & Child 1.5km Fun Run. The 1.5km scenic route along Tanjong-Rhu bridge was packed with interesting games and activities that engaged the family. Clients from Metta School and Metta Home for the Disabled also joined in the Run to show their support to the fundraiser.
Volunteers dressed in Superhero characters found great appeal with the runners whilst a mini carnival with snacks and stalls added liveliness to the Run. This included a photobooth to capture the moment, Henna hand painting and a creative balloon decoration corner for kids. Entertainment highlights by the Pudgy Busker, a talented and professional street busker who serenaded the crowd with soothing contemporary pop songs; Metta School's Stomp Warriors gave an exuberant and rousing percussion performance; another group of students provided an exciting Wushu display; and a team of energetic and vibrant tweens from the Cheerleading Association (Singapore) enchanted the crowd with their bouncy nimble dance moves. Triskelion Singapore Council, a Filipino community whose members work in various industries in Singapore, were also there to perform their cover versions of popular contemporary songs.
Milo truck, sponsored by Nestle, provided free flow chilled Milo beverages while isotonic drinks sponsored by Coca Cola, quenched the thirst of the runners with snacks from Metta Cafe filling their tummies.
