Winners Announced at Asia Smart App Awards Presentation Ceremony 2017

HONG KONG, June 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Key experts and practitioners in the smart app industry across Asia gathered at Cyberport today in Hong Kong at the Asia Smart App Summit and to celebrate the winners of the Asia Smart App Awards 2017. The Summit and Awards are organised by the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (WTIA) and sponsored by Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Among 111 entries from 13 Asian countries and  regions, 9 finalists hailing from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Korea, and Singapore were shortlisted to compete for the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards in three award categories, namely "Business and Productivity", "Game and Entertainment ", and "Lifestyle and Social". The three Gold Award winners were eligible for further competing for the prestigious Grand Award, which was won by Scalebook.

Presented by Mrs. Agnes Mak Tang Pik-yee, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), the awards for the "Business and Productivity" category went to:

  • Gold – PolicyPal
  • Silver – Goldentime119
  • Bronze – PARKnSHOP

The awards for the "Game and Entertainment" category, presented by Mr. Mark O. Clift, Chief Operating Officer of Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Ltd., were won by:

  • Gold – Tapkids
  • Silver – English Galaxy
  • Bronze – Turbine Fighter

Ms. Anna Lin, Chief Executive Officer of GS1 Hong Kong, presented the awards to the winners of the "Lifestyle and Social" category:

  • Gold – Scalebook
  • Silver – drupe
  • Bronze – GaBlind

Ms. Fiona Lam, Assistant Head of CreateHK, presented the prestigious Grand Award to Scalebook – a music education app that helps students practice scales with the help of AI. Scalebook complements music-learning and can instantly analyze students' performance and help improve their intonation, rhythm, speed and tone.

In addition to congratulating the awardees, Ms. Lam also congratulated WTIA for successfully organising the Asia Smart App Summit and Asia Smart App Awards 2017.

Mr. Peter Mok, Head of Incubation Programme of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), presented the HKSTP Startup Award to Mini Legend. The Award recognizes Hong Kong app developers and entrepreneurs who strive for innovative mobile apps development with good business potential.

"There were a lot of great entries this year across all categories so the competition was tough," says Wendy Yung, Executive Director of WTIA. "After careful consideration and a thorough evaluation of each of the finalists' entries, the judging panel has unanimously ranked the 9 finalists to award them the well-deserved Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards and the Grand Award."

This year's judging panel is chaired by Mrs. Agnes Mak Tang Pik-yee, Executive Director of HKPC, with members formed by the representatives of the following organisations from 12 Asian countries and regions: GS1HK (Hong Kong), Indigo.id (Indonesia), ZCast (Israel), Mobile Content Forum (Japan), Korea Association for ICT Promotion (Korea), WWG Capital (the Mainland), Multimedia Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (Malaysia), TechCellar Business Solutions (Philippines), Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (Singapore), Institute for Information Industry (Taiwan), Technology Business Incubation Centre (Thailand), and HATCH! Ventures Vietnam (Vietnam). These representatives also delivered their keynote speeches at the Asia Smart App Summit held before the Awards Presentation Ceremony to share the latest market information and trends.

Mr. Kenny Yiu, Chairman of WTIA, thanked the judges and speakers, and all co-organisers, He also presented the Certificates of Merit to 25 other entries which performed remarkably in the three award categories at the presentation ceremony..
