TAIPEI, Sept. 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Waterson 3-in-1 Closer Hinges make self-closing doors more affordable by eliminating the need for overhead or in-floor door closers. According to Betty Chen, Marketing Manager of Waterson USA, "When you do the math, using our hinges cost less than installing conventional hinges plus a separate closer device."

Waterson 3 in 1 Closer Hinges serve three functions: 1) heavy-duty hinges, 2) door closer, and 3) optional door hold-open. By eliminating the need for an overhead closer, Waterson Hinges improve the appearance of a door and reduce installation and life-cycle costs.

The company, a leading international manufacturer of industrial metal parts, turned its attention to door hardware when the company founder became frustrated with the door closers available for his own home. He challenged Waterson's research and development department to create a solution that would securely and quietly close a door, meet ADA requirements for easy opening, withstand harsh conditions, be exceptionally durable, and look great. It took the team six years to satisfy his demanding specifications.

The result is an innovative hybrid of mechanical and hydraulic technology that integrates three functions into one device: 1) a heavy-duty door hinge, 2) an adjustable door closer, and 3) an optional door hold-open. Waterson now makes a full range of closer hinges for wood, metal, and glass doors in both commercial and residential buildings, plus closer hinges for gates. The closer hinges are also listed by UL for use on fire-rated doors.

Chen opines that Waterson Closer Hinges also cut costs over the life of the building. She points out that they are easy to install using standard hinge layouts. Made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel or aluminum, the closer hinges have survived over one million operation cycles, earning a Grade 1 rating ANSI/BHMA A156.1. "Overhead door closers," she says, "have protruding arms that are vulnerable to damage. They are also more likely to leak hydraulic fluid. By using closer hinges, you can eliminate these problems and also improve the appearance of a door."

With operations now established throughout North America, Waterson Closer Hinges have served with distinction in healthcare, schools, commercial, and residential projects, including major hotels and the recent expansion of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
