Building Surveyor Awards 2019 Presentation Ceremony -- Recognising Contributions and Applauding Excellence

HONG KONG, Aug. 6, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Building Surveyor Awards 2019 (BSA 2019) Presentation Ceremony cum Gala Dinner, organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors Building Surveying Division (HKIS BSD), was held earlier at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong. We were very honoured to have Mr Michael WONG Wai-lun, JP, Secretary for Development, the HKSAR Government, as the Guest of Honour. Sr Winnie SHIU, Acting President of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS), Sr Kenny TSE Chi Kin, Chairman of the HKIS BSD, Sr Andrew KUNG Sui-lun, Chairman of Organising Committee of BSA 2019, judges and other guests attended the ceremony and shared the joy of BSA 2019.

Building surveyors have continually made constructive contribution and played an important role in participation of works of New Development, A&A and Conversion, Maintenance and Rehabilitation of existing buildings. Further to the success of Building Surveyor Awards 2015 and 2017, the Building Surveying Division is pleased to hold BSA 2019 for the third year again. Other than Sustainability Award and Value Enhancement Award which commend building surveyors' contributions to projects with achievements in sustainable aspects and enhancing economic and/or social values, a special award - Caring Practice Award is newly introduced this year to commend their contributions to projects in terms of caring for buildability and/or maintainability, health and safety concerns, constructional and/or operational friendliness.

"The competition wins the public's recognition of the contribution of building surveyors in shaping the built environment, commended in term of design, innovation, management and sustainability," said Sr Winnie SHIU, Acting President of the HKIS. "For building surveyors to demonstrate their versatileness, BSA becomes an extraordinary platform for them to showcase their expertise and skills through competing in the BSA categories from New development, Maintenance and Rehabilitation to A&A and Conversion," Sr Kenny TSE Chi Kin, Chairman of the HKIS BSD said.

The competition opened from October 2018 to February 2019, accepting nominations submitted by client/client's representative or consultants with the involvement of building surveyors in 3 categories including New Development, A&A and Conversion, and Maintenance and Rehabilitation. Our jury panels, constituted of veterans from academics and renowned industry professionals, assessed the 16 finalist projects according to six criteria which include Expertise of Building Surveyors, Design, Project Management, Sustainability, Value Management and Caring Practice. A Grand Award, Special Awards, and Winner and Merit Award(s) of each category have been granted in BSA 2019.

"The theme for the BSA 2019 is 'Go Beyond with Care'. This year a Caring Practice Award has been created to recognize a project which has excelled in related aspects," Sr Andrew KUNG Sui-lun, Chairman of Organising Committee of BSA 2019, said. "No matter which awards our finalists will receive, they are already true winners.  They have gone through rigorous assessments and have certainly set a very high benchmark for others to emulate.''
