HONG KONG, March 8, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- ETS today announced the launch of the TOEFL® Hong Kong Scholarship for TOEFL test takers who are currently residing in Hong Kong and plan to study abroad in the 2023–24 academic year. The application period opens tomorrow, March 9, 2023. The Scholarship encourages test takers to fulfil their dreams through study and to help promote both personal and community-level development.
Tens of thousands of Hong Kong students choose to study abroad every year to broaden their horizons, enrich their life experiences and explore more opportunities for personal growth and development. According to data from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO®), the U.K., Australia, the United States and Canada are the most popular study abroad destinations for Hong Kong students. Since the TOEFL iBT® test is recognized by 100% of institutions in the U.K., Australia, the United States, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand, many Hong Kong test takers have successfully applied to their dream schools with TOEFL iBT test scores. To better serve local test takers, ETS, creator of the TOEFL iBT test, will increase its investment in Hong Kong, expand its cooperation network with local institutions and organizations and jointly help test takers realize their education dreams.
The TOEFL Hong Kong Scholarship will reward eight outstanding students every year who have development potential and aspire to give back to the community through what they learn. Each recipient will be awarded a scholarship of HK$ 10,000. The Scholarship is open to holders of valid Hong Kong permanent resident and non-permanent resident identity cards. Applicants are required to take the TOEFL iBT test in Hong Kong; achieve an overall score of 80 or meet the minimum score requirement set by the institution they apply to; and plan to enroll in a full-time overseas program that accepts TOEFL iBT in the 2023–24 academic year. In addition to applicants who apply for overseas undergraduate and graduate programs, the Scholarship is also open to candidates who aspire to achieve personal development through university foundation programs as well as certificate and diploma programs. In addition, applicants need to be motivated and able to demonstrate the potential to contribute back to their community with what they learn from their study abroad journeys.
The TOEFL Hong Kong Scholarship will be open for applications from 9 a.m. on March 9, 2023, and the application deadline is until 23:59 on July 16, 2023. Application materials include the application form, a copy of valid Hong Kong ID card, the TOEFL iBT score report and an electronic copy of personal ID photo. All application materials must be sent to toefl-hk@etsglobal.org by the application deadline. Applicants who pass the preliminary screening will be shortlisted and the final list of recipients will be determined through interviews. All shortlisted candidates are required to submit their letters of admission to overseas institutions post interview. Winners will be notified by email or phone in August 2023, and the scholarship will be awarded in mid-August.
