The awards drew an exceptional mix of submissions from various industries across 19 countries. 39 innovations were selected and crowned winners from over 200 applications through undergoing a rigorous evaluation process by a jury of prominent judges across three categories: Product, Service & Solution, and Organization & Culture.
Graphjet Technology's State-Of-The-Art Technology In Producing Graphite & Graphene From Palm Oil Waste, Palm Kernel Shells
Graphjet Technology Sdn Bhd's world-first and only patented technology to recycle palm kernel shells, generated in the production of palm seed oil, is able to produce single-layer graphene and artificial graphite for electric vehicle (EV) batteries, medical devices, home appliances, aerospace, sensors, coatings, electronics, and many other applications. This technology enables the company to produce graphite, graphene, and graphene-based anode battery material with at least 98% similarity and are much more consistent compared to other synthetic graphite and graphene which are produced from petroleum coke and coal.
In addition to being higher quality yet cost-saving, the resource supply of palm kernel shells could achieve sustainable green and recyclable regeneration to produce graphite and graphene which are now classified as critical raw materials. Furthermore, by using palm kernel shells as the raw material, the CO₂ emission during the whole graphite production of Graphjet is only 2.95 kg CO₂ eq which is at least 70% lower than the current supply chain level.
