Hanwoo exports to Hong Kong average to 20% increase annually

SEOUL, South Korea, May 3, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- According to Hanwoo Board, the export of Hanwoo (Korean beef) to Hong Kong has recorded an average increase of approximately 20% annually since 2015. To be more precise, the total amount of export was 46 tons in 2016, 57 tons in 2017 (up 24%) and 65 tons in 2018 (up 14%).

Hanwoo's status in Hong Kong has only been growing since it was first introduced in 2015. It has successfully strengthened its presence through consistent promotional activities where marketing efforts were actively put into place by the Hanwoo Board.

In May 2018, Hanwoo Board invited Hong Kong beef distributors to South Korea for a comprehensive briefing on Hanwoo's related industries. The aim was to build a stronger distributor network that can stimulate the exports and boost the sales of Hanwoo in Hong Kong.

Later in October 2018, Hanwoo Board hosted a week-long local Hanwoo Beef Festival in Hong Kong, during which their mobile pop-up stores at major districts such as Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay and Mongkok went viral.

Apart from operating pop-up stores, a series of online and offline events were organized during the Hanwoo Beef Festival, including cow-shaped coin bank giveaways and tasting sessions.  

A 14-day Hanwoo tasting event was also held from November 15-28, 2018, which has received numberous favourable reviews. Local department store customers were provided with an extraordinary opportunity to taste up to 130 kg of Korean beef at AEON Konhill and Whampoa stores. 

To reinforce its local marketing efforts and strengthen the status of the Hanwoo industry in Hong Kong, Hanwoo Board has joined hands with the Korean Consulate General in Hong Kong and aT Center Hong Kong branch in organizing K-Food Fairs featuring Hanwoo beef. South Korean girl group "Mamamoo" was also invited to ine of the events, attracting more attention with their celebratory performance.

In terms of CSR efforts, Hanwoo Board has also planned and organised the "Hanwoo Christmas Party" with the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong last year. All proceedings received from the party were donated to charitable organizations.

Speaking of the success, Hanwoo Board said, "Growing at approximately 20% each year is a clear testament of the excellent quality of Hanwoo. Its taste is en par with top quality beef from any countries in the world. We will continue our promotional efforts in Hong Kong so that more people will know about this delicious option."

Hanwoo Board is planning to set up a separate booth at the "Restaurant & Bar 2019 Fair" to be held from September 3-5, 2019 in Hong Kong to provide a platform for exchange to importers. It also plans to participate in the "Wine & Dine Festival" to be held from October 31 to November 3 this year to further tap into the high purchasing power market. Cooking classes for restaurant workers, such as hall managers and chefs, are expected to take place to support the quality deliverables to more beef lovers in Hong Kong.
