Opening up new elevator aftermarket with huge potential

Publicly available data shows that China, which now has over 6.28 million elevators in operation, ranks the first in the world in terms of elevator ownership and annual sales. Elevator manufacturers are growing with a slower pace as a result of the real estate industry going through a transformation. However, the existing huge number of elevators in operation supports the continuous and stable growth of the elevator aftermarket as well as opens up new market segments consisting of elevator upgrades, modifications, installations and maintenance in existing buildings.

During the expo, Hitachi Elevator demonstrated how to offer efficient science-based maintenance services with intelligent monitoring, analytics, diagnosis and maintenance technologies. More than 220,000 Hitachi elevators have been equipped with remote control terminals that adopt a big-data-based system to monitor the operation state of each Hitachi elevator around the clock.

The company also showcased LGE-E, with special design for installation in existing residential buildings. With its modular shafts and managed services, LGE-E responds precisely to the transformation needs of Chinese cities and helps Hitachi Elevator to expand market of the elevator installation for existing structures.

Hitachi Elevator also displayed a model of installation in existing buildings and provided a presentation of five popular installation approaches, all of which deliver greater flexibility in addressing the market needs with several custom shaft installation solutions.

Mr. Jia said that Hitachi Elevator received orders for over 87,000 elevators in 2018, more than 73,000 units had already been installed. As now the market is turning from a incremental market to stock market, the aftermarket with advanced technology and service has huge prospect and promote the development of elevator industry. Hitachi Elevator plans to accelerate its investment in developing promising elevator aftermarket segments.
