Hitachi Elevator provides the elevators for the recently opened Leeza SOHO skyscraper in Beijing

BEIJING, Dec. 3, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The Leeza SOHO, located in Lize Financial Business District, a commercial area within Beijing's Fengtai District, formally opened its doors for business on November 19, instantly becoming another landmark in Beijing. Hitachi Elevator provided all the vertical transportation solutions for the facility, including 16 units of 4-6m/s double cage elevators. The project is the elevator maker's first collaboration with SOHO China.

Leeza SOHO, designed by the late famous architect Zaha Hadid, has been named by many as one of the top 10 most beautiful buildings in the world, and has been described by multitudes online as the future building most closely matching the definition of the "cyberpunk" style for its ultra-modern design. The building's 11,000-square meter footprint rises 45 stories above ground and four below to make available an astounding 170,000 square meters of floor space. The towering skyscraper serves as a super high-rise international 5A office building in Beijing. Besides access to the high-speed double cage elevators, every office in the building comes pre-equipped with a 5G network and a ventilation system with PM2.5 automated filtering. The project has already garnered the LEED Gold and Green Building Two-Star Certifications.

The steel structure of the entire building weighs 18,300 tons, equivalent to 2.5 Eiffel Towers. As a super high-rise edifice with a special structure, the project faced an unusually challenging set of requirements in addition to Beijing's ultra-strict standards when it comes to construction. In view of the staggering quantity and weight of the components for the elevator, Hitachi Elevator first worked out a detailed plan with the general contractor on how to coordinate the logistics and hoisting once delivered to the site, so that the 630 boxes of components could be efficiently transported to the working surface for installation. The plan proved to be very effective. The work that required highly precise positioning of the double cage elevators, the assembly of the elevators' large-tonnage main bodies as well as the debugging of their circuitry was completed on schedule during the final stage of construction, providing a strong testament to Hitachi Elavators ability to deliver to spec and on time what it has committed to. Wang Youchen, one of Hitachi Elevator's managers for the project, was praised as a key contributor to the successful completion of the Leeza SOHO.

Beyond the collaboration on the Leeza SOHO project, Hitachi Elevator and SOHO China are jointly engaged in the promotion of public welfare education. As an illustration of the charitable work, Hitachi Elevator donated an elevator to Yangzheng Kindergarten in Tianshui, Gansu province invested by SOHO. The delivery and installation are on schedule to be completed in December 2019.
