GUANGZHOU, China, June 16, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- On June 2, 2020, Hitachi Elevator (China) Co., Ltd., won the bid to supply escalators and elevators along the western extension to Shunde, as part of the first phase of the construction of Guangzhou Metro Line 7. With the order now in hand, Hitachi Elevator will provide 152 escalators to the project.
Spanning 13.45 km, the western extension to Shunde starts at Meidi Avenue and ends at Guangzhou South Railway Station. The line passes through Beijiao, Chencun New Town, Chencun, Chencun Waterway and Weichong in Panyu (Guangzhou). The extension connects Beijiao and Chencun with Guangzhou South Railway Station and has interchanges with Foshan's metro lines 2 and 3, Guangzhou's metro line 2 and Guangzhou-Foshan Circular Intercity Railway. Line 7 is scheduled to start operating on a trial basis in July 2021.
The Standing Committee of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee recently underlined at its meeting that the construction of a rail transit industry chain is an important step in the city's contribution to the implementation of the government's roadmap to build China into a transportation powerhouse, while also transforming Guangzhou into an advanced manufacturing leader and serving as an example of scientific and technological innovation. In 2020, Guangzhou plans to start the construction of 12 metro projects, all of which will increase the total length of its metro lines in operation to over 531 km, while initiating plans to extend its metro lines to Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Foshan and Dongguan.
Hitachi Elevator was one of the first vendors to supply both equipment and after-sales services to Guangzhou Metro, with the two entities having negotiated the first project in 1997. It was 23 years ago that the elevator maker provided the first batch of conveyances to Guangzhou Metro's line 1, and the relationship between the two parties has continued to strengthen ever since.
To date, Hitachi Elevator has provided more than 1,800 escalators and elevators to Guangzhou Metro. Currently, Hitachi Elevator's maintenance service covers 177 stations, with a staff of more than 200 assuring the daily maintenance along the authority's many metro lines.
In November 2019, Hitachi Elevator, as part of a consortium, won the bid for the procurement, installation, operation and maintenance of the escalators and elevators for a series of new metro lines as well as extensions to existing lines serving the Guangzhou area. Hitachi Elevator will be providing a further 1,662 escalators to Guangzhou Metro.
Looking forward, Hitachi Elevator expects to remain a key vendor in the ongoing construction of Guangzhou's metro transit network by leveraging cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing and the Internet of things, further promoting the digital transformation and intelligent upgrades of the city's rail transit sector.
