HONG KONG, Feb. 18, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Hong Kong students officially began the 2019 HUAWEI CLOUD Artificial Intelligence (AI) Developer Contest on February 15. The contest is part of the company's new AI Developer Enablement Program, a new program established to foster collaboration with developers, partners, universities, and research institutions in Hong Kong; the ultimate goal of the program is to make AI more inclusive.
Starting from February 15, students began HUAWEI CLOUD's contest with a theme called "Love (AI) Cuisine," in which students will need to use few-shot learning to build a model identifying foods with only a few sample images HUAWEI CLOUD will provide the development platform for students to use for the contest, while at the same time, helping students understand how this contest applies to real-life scenarios enterprise businesses tend to face when dealing with large amounts of data.
All university students who are pre-registered for the contest will have until March 11 to complete the AI module development, and students will present their solutions to a judging panel on March 14.
The contest will allow students to use HUAWEI CLOUD EI ModelArts, a faster and more inclusive one-stop AI development platform, involving data labeling and preparation, model training, optimization, and deployment.
University students will also have the opportunity to use HUAWEI CLOUD's GPU resources to train and build their learning models, and will not be required to build their own GPU platforms for the contest.
Huawei's EI ModelArts development platform is ranked No.1 in the world for its training time of image recognition, according to DAWNBench, Stanford University's international authoritative benchmarking platform for measuring the end-to-end deep learning model training and reasoning performance.
All teams who submit projects into the contest will be invited to visit Huawei's headquarters in Shenzhen, China to experience and learn more about Huawei's AI development. The first place team will receive a secured internship opportunity with HUAWEI CLOUD's AI Lab, as well as Huawei Mate 20 smartphones and HUAWEI CLOUD vouchers for HKD10,000. The second and third place teams will also be awarded prizes.
Winners will be announced at the HUAWEI CLOUD Summit 2019 in Hong Kong on March 19. The contest is being sponsored by the Hong Kong Society of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (HKSAIR) and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP).
