Kneron Boasts Lightweight Algorithm Model with High Accuracy in 2019 NIST Face Recognition Vendor Test

2019-07-24 15:17 2854

TAIPEI, , July 24, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) made public their Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT) for 2019. Among those being tested, there were only six lightweight models that were under 64MB with Kneron's facial recognition algorithm - Kneron-003 - scoring the best aggregate rating among all the lightweight models.

These results show that Kneron is pioneering lightweight AI models that enables mass adoption of on-device edge AI. While their algorithms work on cloud-based platforms as well, their technology really stand out when applied on-device.

Founded in 1901, NIST is the official lab of the US Department of Commerce. It's testing results serve as standards and benchmarks for many industries and especially for sourcing and procurement teams when making purchasing decisions. The FRVT has been around since 2000 and is the most authoritative global test in the industry.

The test focuses on a few different imaging scenarios: VISA, VISAMC, Mugshot, Wild, Child EXP. Kneron scored higher in sections of the test than many more renowned AI companies who have algorithm models higher than 1GB.

Kneron-003's model measured in at 57MB. Within lightweight models, it ranked number one. Within all models under 100MB, Kneron-003's results placed #5 in the VISA category, and #2 in Mugshot.

Kneron has been focused on developing technology and lightweight algorithm models under 64MB balancing fast computing speeds and low power consumption. Applied in small, mobile form factors such as security cameras, drones, smart locks, etc., Kneron's technology enables high performance on-device edge AI when size and power have limits.
