OSLO, Norway, Dec.17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- NEXT Biometrics (Oslo Bors: NEXT), a global leader in fingerprint sensor technology, today announced it has started to sample the One Touch ID FAP20 compliant sensor to prospective customers.

FAP20 is a standardized format for biometric sensors used in government applications. NEXT Biometrics' One Touch ID sensor offers superior fingerprint acquisition quality in an ultra-compact form factor. It is designed to replace bulky optical scanners in applications such as mobile verification terminals, voting terminals and point of sales. It is also adapted for integration into physical access control and time and attendance applications.

Unlike optics, NEXT's One Touch ID is a direct contact sensor with sharp imaging and zero optical distortion. It operates regardless of light conditions, as it is not affected by ambient light and offers superior performance with both dry and wet fingers. NEXT's unique and patented active thermal technology and LTPS manufacturing process makes the One Touch ID sensor very cost efficient.

"Government ID, access control and point of sales represent multi-million-unit markets that require secure and high-quality sensors," said Ritu Favre, CEO of NEXT Biometrics. "Our One Touch ID positions NEXT for a leading role in these markets."

NEXT's One Touch ID sensor is designed to comply with globally recognized government standards of U.S. National Institute of Standard & Technology (NIST SP 500 280 v2.1), and FBI's Personal Identity Verification (PIV) standard for fingerprint image quality as well as with local government standards in many countries. The sensor has an active area of 0.6 x 0.8 inch (approx. 20.32 x 15.24 mm), a native resolution of 500dpi and has an overall thickness of less than 600 microns.
