SINGAPORE, Sept. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, today announced the Trend Micro Managed Detection and Response (MDR) service is now available for customers in Singapore and the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

Regardless of their size, organizations today share a common challenge: an increase in cyber threats and IT security teams that are understaffed and overextended.

Based on the estimate by the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore, the island nation will be short of 9,700 cybersecurity professionals by 2021[1]. This shortage situation is not exclusive to Singapore, but a widespread issue across the region.

Compounding the issue is the fact that modern-day threats, such as network attacks, targeted attacks, cryptominers, fileless malware, and remote access tools, are designed to be difficult to detect and circumvent many types of security technology. Many organizations currently do not have the resources to look for these unknown threats.

MDR is a recent popular approach in the cybersecurity industry that aims to address these challenges. With MDR, organizations in APAC can now offload parts of their security operations – specifically threat detection, analysis, and response -- to cybersecurity professionals. Once a potential threat is correlated, Trend Micro researchers and engineers will produce a detailed analysis of the threat and determine its impact on the system.

Building on Trend Micro's existing ability to automatically detect and respond to unknown threats, the new MDR service adds a layer of new capabilities across solutions for endpoint, network, and server environments. The result helps organizations correlate and prioritize contextual threat information from multiple sources and deliver an automated response. This will include three specific enhancements:

  • AI-augmented identification and correlation of high-risk threats;
  • Automated prioritization of threat information across user endpoints, networks, & servers and,
  • Orchestration and response automation.

"Many organizations today grapple with endpoint detection and response (EDR), responding to an avalanche of gray alerts, and not having sufficient resources to manage their security operations. Our MDR offering is designed to tackle all these challenges," says Dhanya Thakkar, Vice President, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (AMEA), Trend Micro. "The service was released in the US in June this year and we have already received positive feedback from our customers. We believe the MDR service will be well-received by our APAC customers as well."
