BEIJING, March 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2018 High Level Policy Forum on Global Governance: 2018 "Belt and Road" Finance and Investment Forum will be hosted during April 12-13 in Guangzhou, attended by senior representatives from governments, the United Nations, international financial institutions, the business sector, development agencies as well as leading think tanks from around the world.

Jointly organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and China Centre for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE), this year's Forum aims to facilitate tangible exchanges, a strong network and a forward-looking consensus on sustainable finance and investments along the Belt and Road.

"The objective of the Forum is to create an enabling environment to substantially advance sustainable investments with major positive social and environmental impacts for the countries and people along the Belt and Road," said Nicholas Rosellini, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in China.

As an effective mechanism to facilitate policy dialogue among China and the countries along the Belt and Road, the 2018 Global Governance Forum will promote policy coordination between public and private sectors, and among various regions, provinces and cities that have been engaging the BRI both nationally and internationally.

Forum participants include UN Under-Secretary-General and UNDP Associate Administrator Tegegnework Gettu, around ten vice ministers of key countries along the Belt and Road including Bangladesh and Egypt, vice presidents of influential International Financial Institutions such as European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), as well as experts and representatives from other development agencies, think tanks and the private sector.

Topics such as financial collaboration and partnerships based on BRI's early achievements; the examination of environment and mechanisms of sustainable investments along the Belt and Road and the implications of artificial intelligence in driving technological innovations and tackling development challenges will be discussed at the Forum.

"Exploring new ways of global economic governance, the 2018 Forum focuses on integrating sustainable development elements into investment and green finance along the Belt and Road, in order to strengthen multilateral financial cooperation, provide a powerful platform for stakeholders, upgrade regional cooperation, and facilitate resource integration," said Wei Jianguo, Executive Deputy Director of CCIEE.

The first day high-level policy dialogue will be followed by a business dialogue on April 13, in order to further identify opportunities, the private sector and local authorities can bring given their increasingly significant role in implementing the BRI. Leading business practitioners from organizations such as Boston Consulting Group (BCG), PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Sino-Carbon, Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) will offer strategic insights during the dialogue.

Recognizing the role cities along the Belt and Road play in driving economic opportunities, this year's Forum is held in Guangzhou, an integral part of the 'Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area' (GBA). With Guangzhou's proven location and resource advantages in driving regional integration on port, manufacturing, service and innovation, the Forum aims to strengthen connectivity by creating a cooperation network of cities along the Belt and Road that capitalizes on their complementarities and synergies.

The insights and ideas of 2018 Global Governance Forum will be further collected and published to feed into the critical thinking of next Belt and Road Forum in 2019.
