RUEIL-MALMAISON, France, Feb. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management, announced today the launch of Go Green in the City, a new type of creative case competition involving students of eight countries across the world.

The Go Green in the City case challenge is focusing on energy solutions for the city. Until recently, energy was a trivial thing. Today, energy has become scarce, expensive and is undergoing a technology revolution. The need for increased demand for electrical power will have to be balanced with social progress and environmental protection.

"With Go Green in the City, Schneider Electric aims to promote a new kind of case competition for students," said Karen Ferguson, Executive Vice President, Global Human Resources, Schneider Electric. "We have moved away from the typical pre-written case, and we are focusing more on creativity and solutions to environmental and logistical issues, because helping individuals and organizations make the most of their energy is central to Schneider Electric's daily business. Through this competition, Schneider Electric is also looking to integrate women's views and perspectives on how to shape tomorrow's green initiatives."

In teams of two, at least one of which should be a woman, students are encouraged to come up with viable solutions for energy management within five sectors critical to the city: home; university; retail; water and hospital. The Go Green in the City challenge will take place in eight countries (Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Russia, Turkey, and the USA) covering over 80 target universities, and touching around 240,000 students. Around 200 internships will be available for creative participants. The 25 best teams will be flown to Paris in June 2011 to compete in the final. The winning team will be travelling the world, VIP-style, with Schneider Electric, visiting facilities, networking with employees and high-level management, and furthermore will be offered with jobs.

The challenge will run for three consecutive years, the aim of which is to increase brand awareness by building on the previous year's success. Find out more at http://www.gogreeninthecity.com
