HONG KONG, Sept. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- RICS has announced the establishment of two Asia professional group boards-Valuation and Quantity Surveying and Construction. The priorities for the Valuation board are to promote RICS to end users; develop and promote valuation standards; educate both members and non-members on best practice in valuation and engage with opinion formers on valuation-related topics.

The QS and Construction board was officially constituted in July 2011 and has the first meeting virtually on August 31st. Its first task is to identify practice trends, emerging market needs and business opportunities.

The main purpose of the Professional Group boards is to lead the specialism and to develop knowledge and international standards in and for the Asian market. This includes developing quality practice standards and technical information while identifying barriers to standards development and supporting the delivery of CPD content.

The Asia Professional Group boards are accountable to the Asia Board. Chairs of each Asia PG boards sit on their corresponding global professional group board; this ensures accountability and a cohesive global effort to promote professional practice.

Mr David Faulkner, Chairman of the Asia Valuation Board, commented, “As chairman of the RICS Asia Knowledge and Professional Group Board, I welcome the formation of the first two Professional Group boards in Asia. These bring together groups of specialists within their fields to develop information, guidance and knowledge for the many professionals who practice in the region. They will also assist in the development and promotion of global standards and, where necessary, education programmes to support these in Asia. These are the first of several specialist boards that will be established in Asia over the next few years, whilst the Asia Knowledge and Professional Groups Board continues to promote and support the activities of all the 19 Professional Groups within the RICS.”

Mr Kenneth Kwan, Chairman of the QS and Construction Board, said, "The QS practice and market need differs from country to country. We will understand from each of the committee members about their concerns and needs and see how RICS can help. At the same time, we will explore opportunities of promoting QS profession and best practice further in different markets and areas. I am sure the synergy of our collaborative efforts will be huge."
