HONG KONG, Feb. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) Global President See-Lian Ong received the highest and prestigious accolade from Malaysian construction industry and is named as the "Prominent Player of the Year" at the Malaysian Construction Industry Excellent Awards (MCIEA) 2011. The Awards are organised annually by the Consturction Industry Development Board (CIDB), which is a statutory body under the Ministry of Works, Malaysia, to recognise the achievement of individuals and organisations who have excelled in the construction industry.
Mr Ong was nominated for his continuous contribution to the construction industry for the last 35 years and his active involvement and participation in the national level construction industry committees. His aspiration and endeavour to develop and improve the construction industry were highly praised and recognised among the peers.
Having close to 40 years of experience in the public and private sectors of the construction industry, Mr Ong, as a Chartered Surveyor and Registered Quantity Surveyor with the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia, has served as the Chairman of the Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors, PAQS (2003 - 2005) and President of the Institution of Surveyors Malaysia, ISM (2003 - 2004). He has also served as Board member and Chairman of the QS Act Committee of the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia. In addition he has also served on several committees and working groups of CIDB. In July 2011 Mr. Ong was inaugurated as the 130th President of RICS, the first non-British to hold such high position in the 143 year history of RICS. For his extensive contributions in the property and construction industry, he has received a number of well known awards such as the KMN (2003), PAQS Medal (2007), "Malaysian Surveyor of the Year" Award (2008) and ICEC Award of Appreciation (2008).
The winners announcement and awards presentation was held at MCIEA Ceremony yesterday at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Honorable Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Tan Sri Dato' Haji Muhyiddin Yassin presented the winners with their certificates and trophies at the Ceremony.
After receiving the Award, Mr Ong commented, "The MCIEA Awards recognise the commitment and achievements of individuals and companies to championing the development of construction industry in Malaysia. Besides of the Prominent Player of the Year, other awards include CEO of the Year, Contractor of the Year (for various categories), Construction Industry Honorary, R&D Project of the Year and International Achievement Awards.
